Leslie “Les” Raymond Hinds, of Rochester Hills, passed away on March 19, 2019 at the age of 80. Leslie was born on February 15, 1939 in Detroit, Michigan to his loving parents Lestlie and Mary Hinds. Leslie attended Holy Redeemer High School in Detroit, Michigan. He married the love of his life Iris Hinds, whom he called his Angel, and together they had two sons, Leslie and Jesse Hinds. He was employed in the railroad industry working in almost every position from Switchman, to Yardmaster, to Superintendent over the span of thirty years. While working full time he was still able to attend Michigan State University, Pacific Western University, and Wayne State University to earn a Bachelor of Science and his Doctorate in Business Administration. He published a book titled, “Trains, Tracks and Facts,” to enlighten the public about the railroad industry. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, earning the Eagle Rank. He was a member of The Railroad-Yardmasters of America where he held the positions of Local Chairman, Division Chairman, Vice-General Chairman, and President. He honorably served his country as a member of the Navy aboard the USS Submarine Torsk.
Leslie is survived by his beloved wife Iris; his son Leslie; and his grandchildren Amber, Brian, Nicole, and Jaisen. He is predeceased by his parents and his son Jesse.
