Rex Loy Hammack

Rex was born the son of Rex and Ernestine (Tippy) Hammack in Hamilton, Texas on April 6, 1936. He graduated high school in Bayou La Batre, Alabama, class of 1954 and earned his bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Springhill College in Mobile. Rex served in the US Army. He met Bertha Lee Tyler at a Christmas party and they were married August 31st, 1962 in Big Spring, Texas. Rex had a career as a chemist for Haliburton, retiring in 2016.

Rex was president of the Alice Texas Optimist club for many years. He was an avid bow hunter, fisherman, and rifleman. Rex was scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troup 270. He was involved with the Boys and Girls club as well.

Rex is survived by his children Patti (Nyles) Zdzieblowski, Marc Hammack, Michael Hammack, and Cindy Hammack; grandchildren Michael Hammack Jr., Natawny Hammack, Dustin Smith, Catrina Smith, and Kayla Smith; great- grandchildren Jaylee Croom, Jedidiah Croom, Catherine Croom, Rex Hammack III, and Penny Hammack; siblings Rosie Lee Hammack, Roberta Riley, Roger (Mary) Hammack, Randy Hammack, Ruth Hammack, Ronny Hammack, and Ralph Hammack; sister-in-law Ann Hammack; and many nieces and nephews. Rex was predeceased by his beloved wife Bertha Hammack; his parents; and siblings Rebecca Nell Foster, Roland Hammack, and Rodney Hammack.
