I just found several cards my Grandpa, Howard Hickok, kept. They are all so special and the messages personalized. Made him feel very special.

When I think of you, kindness and humility come to mind, and I don't remember you ever being in anything but a skirt or dress...you were a lovely example of what we all should aim for...

You showed me how to appreciate life even when times were hard. I enjoyed our conversations and how you always made me feel at home and at peace. I will truly miss you more than words can say. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.  Had very fond memories of your mother.  She was a kind, quiet, sweet soul.  She lived a wonderful life and had even greater family and loved ones.

Very few people come into this world and make a difference.  She taught me about grace, unconditional love and most recently forgiveness.  I don't remember her ever complaining about anything or ever saying she was tired or had a headache.  I do remember her love of nature. She found beauty in butterflies, birds, rainbows, trees, sunlight on the water, stars on a clear night, sunsets, flowers and even dandelions. She loved life and was always ready for a new adventure.  She will live on through her poems, stories and beautiful watercolors.  With a broken heart I am proud to call her not only my friend but my Mom.

For now I know what it is truly like to have been touched by an angel....

Mom, 
You always saw the beauty in life.
You would rather have a rock than a ring.
Gentle rains and thunder storms
Blue skies and rainbows
Butterflies, birds and waterfalls
Flowers and the forest
Hot tea and diet coke
Books and game shows
Paintings and parties
Peanut butter and chocolate- let's not forget your Ritz Bitz

Aunt Sarah Jane was always such a delight.  I like to think my mom - her sister Mildred, was there to greet her - I see them as once again the beautiful little girls they were.  Probably Margaret and Joe were there as well.

What an honor and privilege it has been these past few years to know Sarah as a special friend and neighbor.  She was a very humble, gracious, kind-hearted woman and a wonderful conversationalist.  She enjoyed her summers at Hubbard Lake and expressed her love of nature through her watercolors which she generously shared, graced with her signature bunny.  Sarah always had a sunny disposition and spoke kindly of others.  She was devoted to her daughters and particularly proud of her many grandchildren.  My condolences to all who loved her.  May her beautiful soul rest in peace.
