GOLEMBESKI, Stanley A., age 94, of Auburn Hills, passed into eternal life on August 28, 2018 in Troy, MI. Born December 20, 1923 in Wakefield, MI to John Golembeski (Gołębiewski), and Bernice (Marczak), he was preceded in death by his brothers Joseph, George, John, Harry, and sister Betty. Stan was deeply fond of the Upper Peninsula and especially of Wakefield, his hometown, where he played sports and graduated in Wakefield High’s Class of 1941.
In June 1943, he joined the U.S. Army’s 84th Infantry Division to serve in World War II, participating in the Battle of the Bulge. He returned stateside in 1946, moved to Ann Arbor to attend the University of Michigan on the GI Bill, and received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1950.
On a weekend trip with mutual friends to New York City in 1959, he met his future wife, Diane McJunkin, and they married on July 30, 1960 at Duns Scotus Chapel in Southfield, settling in the town of Auburn Heights to raise a family. Stan worked as an accountant for Chrysler for many years, then for Rockwell for 10, retiring in 1989. He was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he served for over 30 years as usher. He was also a lifelong sports fan, closely following U of M football and basketball, and the Detroit Tigers, Pistons, and Lions.
Stanley is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Diane Golembeski of Auburn Hills; his children, Mary Ellen (Gary) Connop of Clarkston, Dan Golembeski of Petoskey, and Janice Ann (Kevin) Benson of Traverse City; and grandchildren, Angela and Eric Connop.
Stan’s family wishes to extend special thanks to those who provided care to him in his final months at Sunrise of Troy for their loving kindness and compassion.
Family will greet friends at Visitation on Monday, September 3, 2018 from 4-8 PM, with a Scripture Service at 7 PM, at Pixley Funeral Home, 3530 Auburn Rd, Auburn Hills, MI. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at 10 AM, Instate at 9:30 AM, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 3400 S Adams Rd, Auburn Hills, MI.
