GEORGE A. COURBRON, JR. 1951 - 2021

Auburn-George Alfred Courbron, Jr., age 69, died in Auburn, ME, on Monday May 24, 2021, surrounded by family. George was born in Lewiston on August 23, 1951, the 4th child of George A. Courbron, Sr. and Maria (Goller) Courbron. After graduating from Edward Little in 1971, he attended the University of Maine, Orono, graduating with a degree in civil engineering. George quickly gravitated to the surveying science and for over 30 years ran several surveying and land consulting businesses: BC Construction, Courbron Associates, Courbron Gotto Associates, Technical Services, Evergreen Land Company, Environmental Science, and finally SurveyWorks, Inc. An ever-active member of his community, George also was the plumbing inspector and a volunteer Planning Board member for the Town of Greene. In 1974, George married Mary Anne Charest of Lewiston, and together they raised 4 children in Greene. Before his declining health, George enjoyed scouring the woods, riverbanks, and wetlands with his children discovering and identifying plants, bugs, amphibians, and birds. He was a teacher to many. He also enjoyed big camp-outs with extended family and his life-long friend, Don Delcourt, spending much time boating on the Androscoggin River. George was also a member of the Androscoggin Land Trust, and the Stanton Bird Club. A recent, proud moment for George was being able to see his grandson, Gage Courbron, on leave from his service with the US Navy. George is survived by his wife, Mary Anne of Auburn, one daughter, Zani Courbron of Bangor; two sons, Jimmy Courbron of Brunswick and Jody Courbron of Greene; four sisters, Rosemary Merrill, Audrey Pelkey, Janet Kirouac and Debra Dostie. He is also survived by six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents, two sisters, Kathleen Adams and Theresa Desrosier, a brother Paul Courbron and his beloved son, Jason Courbron. We are so sorry for your loss. When we needed a design done George was who we would go to. We always would recommend him for his quality work and desire to listen to the customer to compliment their land not just stick a system in. He was an honest, funny and all around good person.

Hey Mary Anne and the rest of the family. We just heard the sad news. It has triggered a flood of memories. I was recently reminiscing about Otisfield ( my youngest now lives there ). It was 50 years ago this summer when we lived there. A day doesn’t pass when I don’t think back on those crazy times the 4 of us had
( usually when listening to BLM ). Yeah, the 4 of us, you were one of “the guys” too. D’artagnon to our 3 Musketeers. Please accept our deepest sympathy and condolences. If there is anything you need , don’t hesitate to let us know.

George was such a smart, interesting man, I always enjoyed bouncing ideas around with him. He was always helpful, especially early in my career and always upbeat. It was obvious he loved his family and truly enjoyed surveying and all that went with it. He will be missed by many.
