Born: August 18, 1942 in Prineville, Oregon
Parents: Joel G. Chambers and Dorothy Chambers
Married: September 7, 1963 to Tony E. McMorris in the First United Methodist Church in Seattle, WA.
Jewell graduated from Sunnyside High School, in Sunnyside, WA in 1960. She graduated from beauty school in Seattle and used her training to work until her sons were born. She then became a full time mother until all three of her sons were in school. As the boys grew up, she was “Mom” to many of the boy’s friends.
Initially, Jewell went to work in a small office in Yakima, WA. She found that she liked this and became interested in computer work. She took some classes and found her calling. She then worked in the Seattle area as a comptroller for Washington Mechanical Contractors Inc., as the financial consultant for Merrill Construction Company, and was at Hartford Construction Company until she retired in 2002.
For many years Jewell prepared family dinners and the dining table grew longer as the family grew. She created the McMorris Family Recipe book and gave a copy to each of her sons. A highlight of the cookbook was the humorous recipe for Bart's 40 Second Hotdogs. No Thanksgiving and Christmas celebration was complete without Jewell's Turkey a la King the next day. Later she added gingerbread house decorating with the grandchildren. Spring and Summer celebrations always included Lennie's favorite macaroni salad with cheddar cheese. The great mystery she never resolved was why, despite all her efforts, Heath would not eat salad at home, but enjoyed it at restaurants.
Jewell was a devoted mother and grandmother. She spent time with her grandchildren whenever possible and enjoyed playing games with them and hearing about their activities.
She lived most of her life in the state of Washington in Sunnyside, Seattle, Yakima, Walla Walla, then in Wailuku, Hawaii and Auburn, WA before she and Tony retired to Brewster/Bridgeport, WA. She loved the time she and Tony spent their winters in Arizona.
She was a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Sunnyside, Washington.
