Ron Monroe passed away peacefully Saturday February 8, 2014. Born in 1938 in Olean, New York, he grew up in Belmont, New York with his older brother Terry and younger sister Maureen. After high school he immediately joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Fort Lewis Washington. He was honorably discharged after a civilian car accident broke his neck and he could no longer fulfill military duty.
Ron has 3 children, son Randy (& Kathy) Monroe, daughters Melinda Simms and Melissa (& Ron Freebairn) Monroe and 4 grandchildren, Skyler, Brittain, Dallas and Dakota and
his 3 step children, Lila, Karen and Aaron.
While working at Boeing for over 30 years, Ron had a work ethic beyond compare. Mostly working in the Fire and Safety group as a fireman dispatcher at Renton, his work brought him purpose, success and great friendships.
Retired for nearly 20 years, Ron spent his days with his current dogs Candee and Pepper who already miss him greatly. Over the years Ron was a compassionate animal lover and would rescue any animal in need. He also spent time and took great pride in manicuring his lawn, garden and
beautiful outdoor landscape.
In 1981, he married his wife of 33 years, Leah Willingham, who steadfastly stood by him as Alzheimers crept into his body the last seven years. Leah was his dutiful caretaker and wife and we all feel blessed she was with him throughout.
Our hearts break as we step into the world of loss and grief but were so very blessed to have had him for 75 years to make us laugh. Throughout his illness, he never lost his sense of humor, and to that we are grateful that we can remember him the way he was at his best.
