Aurora Aracely Rubio Buchholz, lovingly known as Aracely, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2026, in Winter Haven, Florida, at the age of 85. Born on August 18, 1940, in Nueva Esparta, El Salvador, she lived a vibrant and fulfilling life that touched the hearts of many.
Aracely began her career as a teacher in her native country of El Salvador before embarking on a journey to the United States to further her education. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Buchholz, at a Navy Ball. The couple married at St. Peter Cathedral in New York and soon began an adventurous life together. Bob's naval career took them across the globe, living in Washington State, Spain, Okinawa, Japan and Bangor, Maine. After Bob's retirement from the Navy and Aracely's retirement as a dedicated Navy wife, they settled in Winter Haven in 1979.
Aracely was a devoted wife to Bob for 54 wonderful years. Together they built a warm and welcoming home where friends and family were always greeted with open arms. Their home became a cherished gathering place for visitors from near and far and was especially beloved by local youth who found it to be a lively hangout spot. Known for her love of entertaining, Aracely hosted legendary and lively New Year's parties that brought joy to all who attended.
A woman of many talents and passions, Aracely had an enduring love for poetry, gardening, and flowers. She found great joy in nurturing beauty around her home and sharing it with others. Her compassion extended beyond her immediate circle; she cared deeply for the homeless and farmworkers, dedicating time to support those in need.
Aracely's zest for life was evident in her love of music and dancing. She enjoyed going out with Bob to hear live music and dance the night away. Camping was another shared passion for the couple: they spent countless weekends exploring nature together in tents or trailers. Their travels took them across Europe, Hawaii, Costa Rica, and beyond—creating memories that would last a lifetime.
Family was at the heart of Aracely's life. She is survived by her beloved husband Bob; their son Kenneth Buchholz and his wife Emily along with their children Parker, Jude, and Ethan of Lakeland, Florida; their daughter Cynthia Smith and her husband Mike along with their children Makayla and Jackson of Fort Mill, South Carolina; as well as her brothers Rommel A. Rubio of Haines City, Florida; Carlos J. Rubio of Maywood, New Jersey; Pedro Wilfredo Rubio of Deer Park, Long Island, New York; Victor I. Rubio of Lakeland, Florida; H. Mauricio Rubio of Winter Haven; Ricardo Rubio of Houston, Texas; and sisters Rubenia Larin of Mission Hills, California; and Leticia Graham of Lakeland, Florida.
She was predeceased by her parents Jose Isabel Rubio and Victoria Alvarado de Rubio, as well as her brother Jose Vidal Rubio.
Aracely found spiritual fulfillment. Her faith guided her throughout her life as she embraced each day with gratitude and joy.
Her legacy is one of love—love for family, friends, poetry, nature, and music—and an unwavering commitment to making others feel welcome and valued. Those who knew Aracely will remember her fun-loving spirit and boundless energy that brought light into every room she entered.
May Aurora Aracely Rubio Buchholz's memory bring comfort to all who were fortunate enough to know her. A Memorial Service will be held on April 11, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens, 2198 K-Ville Ave. The service will be led by Aracely's brother, Wilfredo Rubio.
