Born on September 1, 1941, in Astoria Queens, Kenneth lived a full and vibrant life.
He was married to Sharon A Ross on November 10, 1963, in Hempstead, NY, and
they shared many wonderful years together previously residing in Farmingdale, NY
and Manchester, NJ.
Ken is survived by his loving wife, Sharon; his children, Michael K Ross, Mary R Glad,
Christopher T Ross and Karen R Lombri; his children’s spouses Maria Ross, Gregory
Glad, and Joe Lombri; his grandchildren Samantha and Jason Reale and Sean and
Heather Ross; his great-grandchild Taylor Ross; his brother, Ronald Ross, and sisterin-
law, Lorraine Ross.
He was preceded in death by his father, Mario Ross; his mother, Dorothy Ross; his
brother, Edward Hughes, and sister-in-law, Georgine Hughes; and his father-in-law,
Thomas Archdeacon, and mother-in-law, Thelma Archdeacon.
Ken was known for his warm and welcoming nature. Whether you knew him for a day
or a lifetime, you were his family. He was always the host and the life of the party,
making an impression on everyone he met. Nothing made Ken happier than spending
time with his immediate family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His “magic ball
trick” is shared broadly and across multiple generations, bringing joy, happiness and
mystique to all who witness it.
Ken served as an NYPD Police Officer from 1961 to 1982. He worked several jobs
across his lifetime, but he always considered himself an NYPD Police Officer; it was his
life and identity. He made lifelong friends during his career, from his time spent at the
police academy until he retired. He frequently stayed in touch with many friends from
the police fraternity through the years. Ken received accolades throughout his career,
including awards for both pistol and rifle expertise. He walked a beat in Central Park,
NYC, for his first few years on the force, graduated from motorcycle school, and joined
the NYPD highway patrol motorcycle unit. Ken escorted and provided protection for
many dignitaries, celebrities, and politicians of the time, including Jackie Kennedy,
several Roman Catholic Popes, Muhammad Ali, US Presidents, and many others.
Being a police officer was never easy, never convenient, but he did so with honor and
pride.
A memorial service for Kenneth will be held Friday, March 7, 2025 at 1:30 PM at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home, 2198 K Ville Ave, Auburndale, Florida 33823.
