

Dr. Audrey J. Walker Carr, a beloved mother, sister, minister, and gospel musician, passed away on February 20, 2025, in Augusta, GA. She was born on November 27, 1959, in Hartford, CT, to James Ray Walker and Robbie (Jeffery) Walker. She was a member of the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Augusta, GA.
Dr. Carr was a lifelong learner, her journey of faith, music, and service began with her education at St. Aedan's Parochial School and James Hillhouse High School in New Haven, Connecticut. After relocating to Augusta, Georgia with her family, she attended the Academy of Richmond County. She began pursuing higher studies at Kerr Business College in Business Administration. She later earned a degree in Psychology from Paine College, followed by a Bachelor’s in Sociology from Brewton Parker College. Her academic journey continued with a Master’s in Psychology from Walden University, culminating in a Doctorate of Philosophy in Church Music and Worship from Southwest Central Theological Seminary.
A woman of deep faith and dedication, Dr. Carr was licensed and ordained as a minister. She devoted over 25 years of her life to the Georgia and South Carolina Department of Corrections, where her leadership and compassion left a lasting impact. From an early age, Dr. Carr's parents recognized her extraordinary musical talents, and through the piano, she found a powerful way to express her love for God. Music was more than just a passion—it was her ministry. She was a dedicated member at Community Baptist in New Haven, Connecticut before moving to Augusta, where she served the Macedonia Baptist Church as a musician for many years before joining Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She recently retired from her role as Minister of Music at the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church after 30 plus years of service. As a respected musician, she has assisted in worship at over 35 different churches, provided musical direction for choirs, and been a mentor to aspiring musicians.
Dr. Carr leaves behind a loving and devoted family, including her three daughters, Robbie-Heather Walker, Jennifer Walker, and Jamese (Jamaal) Walker (GA); her five grandchildren, Adrian Walker, James Walker, Kaider Walker, Madison Walker, and Demyra Collins (GA). Her cherished sister and best friend, Deborah A. Smith(GA); She is also survived by her nephew, Brent (Angie) Walker (GA); Aunt, Julia Ross (GA); first cousin Wendy Walker, cousins Willie Burroughs (CT), Kelvin Burroughs (NC) Tony (Paris) Burroughs (CT), Monty Burroughs (AZ), and Deidre Reese (GA); Additionally, she will be missed by her Godbrothers, Lynnwood Holmes, Waymond Huntley; Godsister Cecelia (Tyrone) Johnson; and her godsons, Javan Marshall, Gregory Shields, and Brandon Hollimon.
Her "fur son," Smokey Walker, and her beloved "fur grandbabies," Kobie, Paris, and Scar, will also feel her absence. She leaves behind a host of church daughters and sons, extended family, and countless friends whose lives she touched with her wisdom, kindness, and love.
Dr. Audrey J. Walker Carr’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Her Celebration of Life will be March 1, 2025 at 1:00 pm at the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Augusta, Georgia located at 2526 Lumpkin Rd, Augusta, GA 30906.
