Deborah June Granade, whose boundless care and compassion touched countless lives in Augusta, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly on January 15th, 2025, at the age of 73. June, as she was known to all, embodied the true spirit of a caregiver, dedicating her life to the service of others through her distinguished nursing career, community involvement, and unwavering support of family and friends.
A proud graduate of the Academy of Richmond County (1969) and the University of Georgia (1974), June's passion for learning led her to earn master's degrees in English from UGA and Nursing from the Medical College of Georgia. Her professional career flourished as a nurse manager overseeing OB/GYN and Women's Health at University Hospital and MCG, where her dedication to patient care set an exemplary standard. Beyond her professional duties, she volunteered countless hours at local diabetes and asthma camps, sharing her love of music and crafting with young patients.
June's commitment to enriching Augusta's cultural landscape was evident through her active involvement in numerous organizations. She was a past member of the Augusta Opera, the Augusta Choral Society, and a sustainer member of the Junior League. As one of the original participants in Leadership Augusta and a supporter of the Augusta Symphony Guild, she helped shape the city's artistic community.
At The Church of the Good Shepherd, June found profound purpose in serving others. She lifted her voice in the choir, served on the Altar Guild committee, and was a devoted member of the Guild of the Christ Child, where she lovingly created baptismal banners for families celebrating this sacred milestone.
Those who knew June will remember her as the ultimate caregiver, always ready with a helping hand or a surprise care package left quietly at a friend's door. Her spirit of fun, brilliant sense of humor, and acceptance of people from all walks of life created a welcoming presence that drew others to her. After retirement, she found joy in the crafting community, traveling to shows with her dear friend Katie and finding inspiration in connecting with fellow artisans.
June was preceded in death by her parents, William Oliver Granade, Sr. and Betty Carolyn Smith Granade. She is survived by her siblings William Oliver "Billy" Granade, Jr. (Dianne) of Aiken, SC, James Frederick "Jimmy" Granade (Susan) of Martinez, GA, and Rebecca Adell Granade Lewis (Alan) of Hampton, GA; her beloved nephews and nieces Joshua Granade (Jenifer), Seth Granade of Aiken, SC, Carolyn Anne (Chris Carr) of Houston, TX, Jennifer Anne Granade of Atlanta, GA, and Ryan Oliver Lewis of Buford, GA; and her great-nephews Liam and Lucian Granade of Aiken, SC. As a doting aunt, she took immense pride in her family's accomplishments and made it her mission to be present for all their important life moments.
A celebration of June's life will be held March 15th at 12 noon at Elliotts funeral home on Lumpkin Road, with visitation prior to the service. Roger Speer, minister and treasured friend, will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the "Guild of the Christ Child" c/o the Church of the Good Shepherd. Her love of the arts, crafting, sewing, music, Shakespeare, and her beloved Georgia Bulldogs was surpassed only by her devotion to friends, family, and church—a love that was returned in full measure by all who knew her.
