She was born in Harlan, Kentucky on February 10, 1934, a daughter of the late Sam and Ora Creech Smith. Mabel was employed as a school secretary for the Richmond County School System.
Mabel is preceded in death by her parents; son, Dean Plueger; siblings, Verda Lusk, Virgil Smith, Estill Smith, Olan Smith, Bicel Smith, Norma Stringer, Nila Browning, and Gerald Calahan.
She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Donald Plueger; brother, Sam Smith, Jr., sons, Jeff Plueger (Susan) and Steve Plueger (Katrina); grandchildren, Chad Plueger (Jennifer), Justin Plueger, Wesley Plueger (Hannah), Charles Byrne (Ashton), Austin Plueger (Kayla), John Byrne (Miranda), David Byrne (Breanna), Shanna Kneece, Caleb Plueger, and Donnie Plueger; and 13 great-grandchildren.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, July 1, 2023 at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Deans Bridge Rd, Augusta, GA. The service will be conducted by Pastor Amy Carpenter.
