Rita McNeely

Rita was born in Statesboro Georgia on March 6, 1939, to the late Marvel Addison Still and Elise Bolton Still.

Rita held the distinctive title of Homemaker and took much pride in raising her children and caring for family. She was an avid reader who loved anything chocolate, and liked to sew but more than anything else, loved her yard. Gardening, tending to her flowers and loving on animals were a part of her life’s work and she got much joy from it all. Without a doubt she was beautiful, both inside and out; she kept her makeup bag next to her bed until the very end. Rita was also known to be a “Spitfire,” so much so, that her late husband gave her the nickname “Pistol-Packing-Pete."

Rita is preceded in death by her adoring husband of 39 years, Ernest R. McNeely. She is survived by her loving family. Daughter, Teresa McPherson, grandson Duane McPherson and his wife Shawna (great grandchildren; Dustin, Madison (great-great grandchild Marilyn), and Hannah). Daughter Diane and her husband Eddie Polk and grandchildren Kevin Bentley (great grandchildren Isabel and Kristian and their mom Angeline), Marie Oglesby and her husband Sammy (great grandchild Teresa Anne Yazzie and her husband Dustin), and Adriana Leiby and her husband Steven (great-great grandchildren Waylon Reid Leiby and Montana Rae Leiby), all whom she loved and cherished dearly.

A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday January 16, 2025, at Hillcrest Memorial Park located at 2700 Deans Bridge Road, Augusta GA, 30909.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) in the name of Rita McNeely.
