Born in Winthrop, Massachusetts on December 28, 1928, Ruth was the youngest child of Arnold J. Buschena and Estelle (Mathewson) Buschena. She married the love of her life, Robert Kennedy Rand on October 14, 1948. Together they had five daughters and lived in Foxboro, Massachusetts for twenty years. In 1976, Ruth and Bob moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. With a mutual love of the sea, they spent their retirement years traveling, becoming regulars on cruise ships, getting to know captains and crew on a first name basis, and lost count of their dozens of cruise adventures together. They were often joined by their daughters, sons-in-law, and granddaughters.
In 2015, Ruth moved to Augusta, Georgia. While there, she was able to spend more time with her nearby daughter, son-in-law, granddaughters and their husbands, and great-grandchildren.
Throughout her lifetime, Ruth was always creating. A homemaker throughout their marriage, Ruth’s beautiful home was the backdrop for countless family gatherings. An avid baker, her recipes are now family traditions. She was an exquisite artist who could paint or draw the tiniest of details to perfection. She instilled a love of needlework in her daughters and her projects have been proudly displayed in their homes for decades. Once the owner of a sewing machine store in Foxboro, Massachusetts, Ruth was a highly skilled seamstress who could make anything from simple patterns to elaborate dolls with wardrobes of clothing for her granddaughters. Her favorite time of year was Christmas and she lived to fill each season with cherished traditions, countless beautiful decorations, delicious foods, and a lifetime of memories.
Ruth peacefully entered into eternal rest at age 91 on September 24, 2020. She is preceded by the passing of her husband, Robert Kennedy Rand, their daughter, Jacqueline Rand, her parents, brother, and sisters. The legacy of her kindness, generosity, care, and love will live on through her family, which includes her daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Rick Topf, Wendy and Bob Scopa, Barbara Rand and Bob Pegurri, and Carol and Peter Lovering; her granddaughters and their husbands, Melanie and Kris Lambert, Jennifer and Travis McGhee, and Jacqueline and Matthew Herzberg; and her great-grandchildren, Hannah, Logan, Connor, and Harrison.
