He was the eldest of three children, with a brother, Tommy, and a sister, Dodi. Due to his father’s Air Force service, CJ spent much of his childhood traveling, an experience that shaped his adaptability and independence.
CJ was a dedicated and accomplished student, earning his Bachelor’s degree in 1966 and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1970 from Texas A&M University. He was inducted into Pi Tau Sigma and Tau Beta Pi for his academic achievements. Resourceful and hardworking, CJ supported himself through college by working nights and mending classmates’ clothing.
CJ married Norma French-Oliver in 1971, and together they welcomed their daughter, Julia Carroll, in 1973 and their son, Norman James (Jamie), in 1978. In 1977, the family moved to Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia, where CJ spent much of his career working in refinery operations for Saudi Aramco. While there, he married his second wife, Supha, in 1987.
After retiring, CJ and Supha returned to Colorado in 1996 to be near family. They later welcomed their son, Paul Phanudej Moench, in 2005. CJ also worked as an HVAC specialist, served in refinery operations in the U.S., and earned his Professional Engineer license. He was deeply respected for his knowledge and practical problem-solving abilities.
Known for his kindness and generosity, CJ supported the Colorado Springs Thai Buddhist Temple, where he and his family attended regularly. He passed away on January 15, 2026, leaving a lasting legacy of love, service, and quiet strength.
