To Alan's family I was friends with Alan at university. I remember how everyone in the drama program was crazy about him. He was enormously respected for his uplifting, friendly and positive nature. I will always remember him. Always love him. Marypat Griffiths

My name is Laurie (Robertson) Davis, I was a friend of Alan’s back at Churchill and at L’Amoreaux. When we were at Churchill a few of us would head over to Alan’s to listen to albums, all the classic rock bands!  When we headed to L’Amoreaux Alan would give me a ride in his light blue VW bug. He was the only friend with a car at the time.  I have a memory that stands out, a good friend of ours died when we were in grade 13, Alan volunteered to drive a bunch of us to the funeral, that bug was packed (no seatbelts then). He always knew the right music to play to fit the mood. This day he put on Elton John’s Funeral for a Friend, we all cried the whole way there. I just by chance searched for Alan yesterday, and found this. I am so sad that he is gone and I am so sorry.  I will always remember Alan’s smile.

Although much time has passed since I've had contact with Alan and his family, I have very fond memories of his visits to the farm in Merrickville.  Rest in peace.

So sorry to hear of Alan's passing. Alan was a coworker of mine and he is deeply miss by his McKenzie Trailers family. I always looked forward to our chats, weather it was about down east or his many trips he has taken. His passing sure has put a void in my work days. Sending my heart filled condolences to his family and his partner who he proudly spoke of quite often. Alan was a proud Dad and grandfather. He will be missed by many. Stay close to the hearts of those who love and miss you Alan.

A wonderful friend gone way too soon.  He was much younger in spirit than his 68 years.  Always a delight to spend time with, although those times were far too few these last decades.  But it was always good to see Alan once a year when I was in Toronto. I met him when he was dating a friend of mine at Scarborough College, back around 1980, and he and I became fast friends.  He enjoyed museums and concerts, like I did.  We went to a Haircut 100 concert once in Yorkville, and we always laughed when we remembered how they repeated their short song list.  Alan was very proud of his children, and I'm glad he got to enjoy time with them and also time traveling all over the place and experiencing life to the fullest, especially these last few years.  My deepest sympathies to the family.  I will miss him terribly.

We are shocked and deeply saddened by Alan's sudden passing. Our deepest sympathy goes out to Vaselle and Alan's children, grandchildren, siblings and friends. Alan was a close friend of Doug's.  As a couple we have many funny and happy memories of our time together over the last 30+ years. We will miss meeting up with Alan (and Vaselle) for dinner, concerts, hanging out at our cottage or watching televised sporting events together.  Our conversations were always lively and engaging as Alan's interests were wide ranging. He was passionate in his opinions and debates but his generous and kind nature always shone through. Time spent with our friend Alan was too fleeting and we will miss him a great deal. A donation to Sick Kids Hospital to honour Alan's memory has been made as he just recently talked about how important the hospital was to him.

Alan has been a very close friend of mine for over 35 yrs.  We met in the late eighties while working at the Toronto Catholic School Board.  We've been hanging out and having many good times and laughs together ever since.  We shared many common interests together. We both enjoyed watching and playing many sports such as golf, baseball, hockey, skiing, boating etc. We were equally matched on the golf course despite his forgetting to count the odd stroke here and there. Lol. He loved cottaging, his dogs and the great outdoors. He enjoyed traveling very much and I have fond memories of our trip to Florida and other road trips and adventures.  We also shared our love of music and we enjoyed many concerts together.  Classic rock, blues, pop etc,  he enjoyed many different types of genres.  We saw many concerts and bands including a recent outing to watch his Buddy John Cook's band play in Port Hope.
Alan was an intelligent, well educated, successful  hard working guy who loved his family.  He was recently winding down his career as a very successful RV Sales Rep in which he earned top sales earner over many years.  He was a friendly people person and enjoyed this work very much.
We spent countless hours over the years talking about a wide range of everyday topics including supporting each other on life's ups and downs.  A great friend, sadly lost too soon. But I'm so grateful he's left me so many wonderful memories to cherish for the rest of my life. Rest in peace my friend. Sadly missed never forgotten.

Dear Family,
Al and I were great buds in the late 70's while I was living in Toronto. (Glace Bay girl at Ryerson)
We scooted around in his blue VW, a few trips to Bracebridge, and lots of laughs; he was a true friend.  We kept in touch over the years,  through many chapters.  Al and I enjoyed a visit about 8 years ago - pick up where you left off.  A great, kind, humble friend gone way too soon - I will cherish our memories.  Love, Margery Warren, Boston

My heartfelt and sincerest condolences to everyone who is feeling Alan's absence. I'll remember him as the man who took note of, and always stocked up on my fav almond milk when I came to visit. You will be missed.

We are so shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of our once neighbour and close friend of nearly 40 years, Alan.  We will fondly remember Alan as a  smart, loyal and engaging friend, a man with many interests and passions, and a devoted and loving father. As guy friends, couples and families, we shared many experiences and a few adventures over the years, and we will cherish these memories.  Our most sincere thoughts and condolences go out to Alan’s (and Margaret’s) 3 children, James, Jordan and Amy, as well as to the entire Hardwick family, who have lost Alan far too soon. My deepest condolences to the Harkwick family on the passing of Alan. It was quite a shock to say the least. I have many memories of Alan when he was dating my sister Mary. He was always at our house,picking us up every morning in the VW to drive us to school. I will always remember him has sweet and loving person.

I have fond memories of Alan and the whole Hardwick family from childhood. Whenever our families got together, everyone had a blast. He was kind, funny, and will be sorely missed.
