Gail was the loving wife of the late Brian, and her devotion to family remained the steady centre of her life. She will be deeply missed by her daughter, Anne (Colin Harrison), and remembered with special tenderness as “Grandma Gail” to her beloved granddaughters, Luci and Lyla.
Predeceased by her brother, Gary McDonald (Kathleen), Gail is also mourned by Gary’s children, Meredith and Denise, who grieve her passing.
Gail’s life was enriched by enduring friendship, and her lifelong besties, Chris and Ann, will feel her absence profoundly.
Living on the water in Collingwood, Gail and Brian became avid boaters, embracing the ease and freedom of time spent afloat. In winter, they often chose the sun of Mexico over the harshness of Canada’s brutal cold, finding warmth not only in climate but in the life they built together.
A capable and determined hard worker, Gail spent much of her career in finance, bringing diligence and steadiness to all she undertook. At home, she was known for her love of cooking and entertaining, creating welcoming spaces where others felt cared for and included. She also enjoyed knitting, taking particular joy in making sweet baby clothes for Luci and Lyla—small, thoughtful gifts that carried her affection in every stitch.
Gail gave generously of herself through every season of life: deeply involved in Anne’s activities and, later, in the lives of her granddaughters, all while keeping house, caring for her ill husband, and still finding time to gather and host those she loved. After Brian’s passing, she moved in with Anne and her family, continuing to contribute in countless practical ways—especially through organizing, helping with household chores, and preparing special-occasion dinners that brought everyone together.
Her loss will be profound to all who loved and cared for her. Those wishing to honour Gail’s memory are invited to consider a donation to the Princess Margaret Foundation in support of cancer research.
