Dear Margaret, Brodie, Sydney, and Stacey:  
It's Bruce, your former next door neighbour.  I realize that it's been six years since Bob died, but I just found out.  I'm so sorry for your loss.  You guys are the best neighbours I've ever had, and you three kids were the best behaved children I ever sat.  Marg, you and Bob had a huge impact on my life, and I can't thank you enough for your patience and wisdom.  And yes, purple door.....you were visionaries.  By the way, I love sherry and port; that's what Bob and I drank each night in the basement while I watched him create masterpieces from chunks of wood.  That and Chammomile tea.  I hope you guys are all doing well...and that you take care of each other and your growing families.


My sincere sympathy to Bob's family.  I knew Bob when I worked for West Island Citizen Advocacy and he became a volunteer for us.  Bob soon became our "go to man" for all sorts of situations.   He helped those everyone  with respect,dignity, imagination (needed when coaxing difficult characters) and love. There came a time when Bob needed help to live on his own in his home, and he was loved by those who became involved in his life - and he loved them back.

Our deepest sympathies to Sydney and her family. We knew Bob when he lived in Point Claire with his dog. We would visit him with Cindy and Bill. He was such a nice man. We kept in touch over the years with Christmas Cards. Rest in peace Bob.

Seeing Bob's obituary in the Toronto Star brought back a flood of happy memories. I met Bob and Margaret shortly after I came to Canada in 1960 and actually bought my first car (a white MG A sportscar) from them.  My wife Leslie and I visited them in the house with the purple door! Those were exciting and happy times, but we lost touch sometime between the births of Sydney and Stacey, probably because we moved to different parts of Montreal and were each raising a family and building our careers.
