Elizabeth "Betty" Fiebig

28 June , 19504 January , 2019

Elizabeth “Betty” Rivas was born on June 28, 1950 in Temuco, a city in rural Southern Chile by a woman, who was well ahead of her time, our dearly departed Carmen Bustos (a story for another day). Elizabeth attended a German school and lived as a boarder from the age of 6 where she first learned how to make friends and be the life of the party. On the weekends, she would head home to the ‘quinta’, to tend to the property and animals. She grew up with cousins Irene and Jacqueline in the house forming deep sisterly bonds that exist even to this day. Over time Betty and her friends would learn to dance the twist in the family kitchen followed up by lively accordion concerts, that is when she wasn’t using the kitchen to bake cookies and treats for all to enjoy, a sign of things to come. At the age of 20, a slender ‘Flaco’ young man arrived at the house, extracted himself out of his Mini, to meet the family of his future bride. The son of Erwin Fiebig and Francis Wittmaack, Gerd Fiebig would become the love of her life, the ying to her yang, a compliment to each other in every way. They were engaged 3 months after dating, knowing they had found their soul mates. They would start a family, immigrate to Canada and travel the world forming bonds of friendships and love at every stop. Where ever she went, she would join social committees, or become it if one didn’t exist. There were countless New Year’s Eve parties, Chile Day parties, birthday parties, Ballantrae Social Club events, BBQs, Chatty Vaughn socials, beach trips, cookie exchanges and get togethers - just because - she loved her friends and family so much. She joined the Aurora Opti-Mrs. Club, got involved at the Chamber of Commerce through her business – Betty’s Treats – where her passion for cooking, baking, entertaining and hosting flourished, and where she would end up making hundreds of elaborate (and delicious) wedding cakes over the course of about 20 years. She was also known in the community for participating in numerous Aurora Home Shows and Bridal shows often winning awards. Her children Andrea Loyola, Gerd Fiebig Jr., their spouses Leo and Judy, along with grandchildren Stephan, Anna and Carmen, as well as Jacqueline and her husband Mahmood, and their children, Megan, Amanda and Andre and her husband Gerd Sr. where with her at the end, letting her know just how loved and special she was to us and to all fortunate enough to know her.

Dear friends,
In the name of our family and myself, I would like to thank each of you for being part of Betty's visitation and the Church funeral service. The large number of participants is a testament to Betty's outgoing personality and the many friends she made during our 40 years in Canada.
Special thanks to Kathy McLeod, Carlos Diaz, Raul Valenzuela Jr.,and Daniela MacDonald (on behalf of Emmy Valenzuela) who shared kind words, some of their experiences with Betty, and loving thoughts about her. We would also like to express our thanks to Tyler Yap Young, who led us through the eulogies expertly.
We will never forget Betty.

I met Betty at a Chamber function and was immediately drawn to her open friendly personality. She was always quick to help others and always with a smile. Betty made my daughters wedding cake and many others which were always the talk of the gathering.
She will be sadly missed, our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.
Rest in piece Betty!

Queridos Gerd e hijos

My whole family sends condolences to the Fiebig family. Chile and I worked in the same position for many years at the City of Vaughan, sitting side by side. Also myself and my kids, David, Amanda, and her future husband, Travis Hillier, worked with her in her catering business. A great co-worker to me and an amazing boss to David, Amanda and Travis. A kind and generous person to everyone. Our thoughts are with her family and friends. Sincerely Marie Kennedy and husband Dave

My Deepest Sympathy to Gerd Sr., Andrea, Gerd Jr., and Her Family and Friends.

We, the "CHATTY VAUGHAN GROUP" were blessed to have a very special talented, classy, loving friend, whom we called "CHILE" for over 30 years.

We have wonderful fond memories in Annie's Kitchen where we enjoyed, chatting, laughing, cooking, baking, eating and sharing all our recipes, and adventures/stories of our children, grandchildren, friends and families that we will always cherish for many many years.

We will miss her deeply!! Betty is now our guardian (Chilean) angel that will always be chuckling, giggling and smiling down at us every time our CHATTY VAUGHAN GROUP gets together or chats together.

Love Chatty Cathy
