Gordon Herriot Rapson was born on January 18, 1922 in Madura, India. The fourth of six children, Gordon was a tremendous athlete, excelling in hurdles, field hockey, and cricket, winning numerous awards. In the 1950s amidst the uncertainty of Indian independence, Gordon and his loving wife Teresa, gave up a comfortable life and moved to England to ensure a better future for their children. Gordon continued to work on railroads, including the London Underground and TTC until his 70th birthday. Gordon and Teresa left England for Canada and bought their house in 1972, where Gordon lived right up until his passing. A very religious person, Gordon’s values were all about his family and friends and far less about material possessions. Their parties in the basement were legendary. Teresa’s culinary skills were renowned, but depended totally upon Gordon’s grocery shopping expertise. Gordon was the lynchpin in the family resulting in 17 years of memories from family Christmas trips to the Caribbean after the passing of Teresa.
Gordon passed away peacefully in the company of family on February 25, 2022 at “his” family cottage. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Elizabeth Rapson, his wife Teresa, and his son Anthony Keith (Kim). His legacy continues through his three daughters Belinda (James), Trudy (Toccar), Jacqueline, his seven grandchildren, Blaire (Nicholas), Matthew (Leslie), Benjamin, Ashleigh (Michael), Sarah (Matthew), Daniel (Chloe), Mackenzie, and six great-grandchildren.
He was a devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather, and he will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
