I have many fond memories of Uncle Jack.

Many years ago when I was twenty-two, I was hitch-hiking around Europe and met up with  Uncle Jack in Florence, Italy. He was going out to dinner with his boss to a posh restaurant and invited me to join them. I said that I shouldn’t; the only dress I had was casual denim. Jack insisted that I accompany them to dinner. As we were leaving the hotel lobby, a familiar-looking man exited with us. In that quiet, Canadian way, I stopped and said, “Excuse me, you look very much like Richard Dreyfuss. The man replied, “I AM Richard Dreyfuss.” I thanked him for his acting skills, and Jack said, ”Invite him to come along to dinner, too.”  Mr. Dreyfuss declined. That’s the Jack I knew: welcoming, patient, playful, with a great sense of humour.
He is missed.

Jack was one of the first people I met at The Meadows. His kindness has always impressed me, asking about staff long after they've left and remembering even the smallest detail. One of my favourite memories is when Jack would stop in front of the nurses station and give us a little shimmy. Always the joker, I understand, he was always trying to make us laugh!
Thank you for all the years of fun. We will miss you so much! Our love is with the wonderful people you leave behind.

I have very fond memories when we were younger going to visit with Grandpa Jack. He always had fun toys he had found for us at garage sales, funny pictures on the fridge, or he would find frames and gift us pictures that he had printed and framed. He had such a warm energy and quick, mischievous wit. <3

Jack was creative and curious.  A picture he printed and framed from the Star of thousands of people running the SL 10k and discovering me in the middle.  A weekend at Miller Lake with our girls and building little boats from drift wood and feathers to their delight.  But most of all, Jack made my mom laugh and for that I am truly grateful.

I will always remember grandpa Jack as creative, witty, intelligent and thoughtful. He had a way of remembering the smallest details and surprising you with the most thoughtful gift or gesture. His kind heart and witty jokes touched everyone around him. He will have a special place in all of our hearts and he will be very missed ❤️

Out of all the father-in-laws in the world, how did I get the best one? Jack was truly an amazing man. As a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and father-in-law, he embodied kindness, love, and compassion. His warm heart and thoughtful nature made a lasting impression on everyone. 
Jack had this wonderful sense of humour that could light up any room. He had the best one liners you could ever hope to hear! No moment felt dull with him around. He had a way of bringing laughter and joy into every encounter. He introduced my husband and me to auctioning during our visits to Newmarket, igniting a shared passion that remains with us. Our trips to Ottawa were filled with adventure as Jack took us to all of the wonderful museums the city had to offer. I can still see the delight in our children's eyes when we visited the agricultural farm, where their grandpa’s love for learning and sharing only deepened their curiosity. I will never forget the time when we visited, and our son Ryan was just a wee boy. His little heart overflowed with affection, and he would sweetly ask for Grandpa to pick him up for a cuddle. Jack’s gentle response, recognizing Ryan's polite nature, always touched my heart. It was a beautiful reminder of the kindness that defined Jack. And Eryn, our daughter, had a special connection with him too. Every visit, she would eagerly dump out boxes full of toys to play with at Grandpa’s, bringing a burst of joy into their shared moments and he affectionately called her ‘the dumper’. While we will definitely miss Jack, the lessons he imparted and the love he shared will stay with us for the rest of our lives. I know our children will forever be grateful for the experiences and wisdom shared with their Grandpa. Thank you, Jack, for being such as incredible light in our lives. You will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.

I have so many fond memories of Grandpa Jack. My favourite thing is when he would go to garage sales and find each of us something special to have. A great man with a warm and friendly demeanour, he will be missed.  <3

We will always remember Jack’s sense of humour and that twinkle in his eye that always gave him away when he knew he was being funny. There was something genuine and special about Jack that drew people in and he held a special place in our family. We loved the hidden treasures he used to find at auctions and garage sales and the singing and dancing snowman will always have a place in our home - a reminder of Jack’s laughter, kindness and infectious spirit. Rest in peace, Jack. ❤️

The very first time I met my father-in-law, though he was just my boyfriend’s dad at the time, he took me out for lunch. After a lovely meal, the waitress brought the bill, and Jack looked at me with a completely serious expression. In a quiet voice, he said, “I’m going to go start the car. When the waitress isn’t looking, make a run for it.”

I was stunned. My face must have gone pale, and that’s when he burst out laughing, he knew he had me. That moment set the tone for every encounter that followed.

Jack had a wonderful sense of humor and a gift for making people laugh. He brought joy into every room he entered, often accompanied by quirky auction or garage sale treasures, whether we wanted them or not! (Though I’ll admit, the kids were always thrilled with the toys he brought.)

Beyond the laughter and the treasures, what always stood out to me was how Jack genuinely cared. He never failed to ask how I was doing, and it was never just polite small talk, he truly listened, with warmth and sincerity. That kind of kindness is rare, and it meant a great deal to me.

Papa Jack was a kind and generous grandfather to Jack and Kyla. He had a special way of connecting with them, always keeping them in giggles and making them feel loved. His warmth, humor, and thoughtfulness touched all of us, and his memory will live on in the stories we share and the love we carry forward.

We will miss him deeply.

Uncle Jack had the best laugh and a quick wit!  He always had something humorous to say and could light up a room with his smile. He could always make my mother laugh, and I know she loved their many telephone chats. Growing up I was convinced that uncle Jack was the smartest person I knew.  As an adult, I know that he was beyond smart, he was wise.

As you make your way through this difficult time, I hope all of you can remember the good times, lean on one another for support, and be kind to yourselves.
