

Born in Bootle, Liverpool, England on September 14, 1930. Passed away completely at peace and surrounded by love on July 2, 2023 at Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay, ON. Predeceased by parents John Edward Lloyd and Margaret Lloyd (nee Winstanley), brother Eric Bryce Lloyd, daughter-in-law Colleen Jones. Survived by children Alan Jones, Barbara Jones, Claire Van Dam (Anthony) and grandchildren Sam Crothers, Tyson Jones, Ayden van Koot, Mackenzie and Alison Van Dam.
Joyce worked at the Royal Liver in Liverpool and then joined the Liverpool Police force, walking the beat as a “bobby”. After moving to Canada in 1955, Joyce worked as a secretary with the Metropolitan Toronto Police force before joining Sterling Drug in Aurora. She worked at Sterling for more than 25 years, retiring at 62.
Joyce lived a full and vibrant life. From a young age, she had a racquet in her hand, playing table tennis for the Liverpool police force, badminton recreationally and tennis competitively for 65 years. Joyce was a member of the Aurora, Richmond Hill and Boulevard tennis clubs for many years. In 2000, at the age of 70, Joyce joined the Canadian Master’s Games team. She played as a ranked player in singles and doubles for 7 years, traveling around the world and making friends everywhere she went. She won many awards throughout her lifetime, but she valued most the friends that her sport brought her.
Joyce loved to travel, dance, cross country ski and play a bit of golf. She adored her grandchildren and was very proud of them.
A memorial service for Joyce will be held Friday, July 21, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Thompson Funeral Home, 530 Industrial Parkway South, Aurora, ON L4G6W8, followed by a reception.
