It is with both profound sadness and great joy that we announce the peaceful passing of Karyn Lynne Rasmussen (née Scott) at her beloved home on Balsam Lake on the morning of August 11, 2026, surrounded by her family.

There is deep sadness in losing her far too soon, but also great joy in celebrating an extraordinary life — a life filled with love, laughter, family, friendship, travel, adventure, and countless beautiful memories.

Karyn is survived by the love of her life, Axel; her sons, Ryan (Marie) and Christopher (Jennifer); her stepdaughters, Tricha (Cam) and Amanda; her 14 grandchildren and their spouses — Patrick, Brieanne (Will), Jake (Alleks), Madison (Olivier), Maverick (Baran), Marchel, Avalyn, Kingston, Mila, Hunter, Eve, Raef, Axel, and Theia — and her six great-grandchildren, Lovie, Flora, Devin, Odella, Sonny, and Giana.

Karyn also leaves behind her beloved sister, Christine (Rick); Christine and Rick’s children, Carly (Ashish) and Tyler (Alexandra); and Christine and Rick’s grandchildren, Asher, Sloane, and Aiden.

An incredible, big, beautiful family.

Karyn, affectionately known as Bomomma, Bo, and Bobo, was blessed with an unbelievable amount of love and affection from her family. Her boys adored her, and despite the ever-growing number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she somehow found the time and energy to establish a special and deeply personal connection with every single one of them.

Karyn was an exceptionally tough, strong-willed woman with a perpetually positive outlook. She faced numerous major health challenges from the age of 15 and handled every one of them with grace, dignity, and, usually, a smile on her face. She could rise to a social occasion like no one else — always ready to have fun, make people laugh, and enjoy the moment.

Knowing that her time was limited following her terminal diagnosis, Karyn was fortunate enough to experience her own “Celebration of Life” this summer. Surrounded by her family and those closest to her, she was able to hear firsthand just how much she meant to everyone whose life she touched. It was a beautiful gift — to know, while she was still with us, just how truly loved and special she was.

Her grandchildren describe her as loving, kind, and amazing. But perhaps the most beautiful and honest description came in a love letter from her granddaughter in Quebec, who likened her Bo to a rose — beautiful, soft, and loving, but also strong and a little prickly when needed. A perfect balance.

A tiny force of nature.

Beyond her family, Karyn was blessed to be part of a very, very special group of friends in the Indian Point community. The friendships, love, laughter, and memories created over 28 years on the Point have been nothing short of magical. Her “girl crew” will dearly miss her sparkle, her spirit, and her wonderful sense of fun.

Her husband will miss his little helper, her wise and sometimes unsolicited advice, and all the little things that made their life together so special. But most of all, he will miss the extraordinary love story they created together over 48 years.

Gone from our sight, but never far from our hearts.

It was Karyn’s wish to be cremated, with no funeral service. Her ashes will be scattered at a later date in a private ceremony with her immediate family. Friends and family are invited to her visitation on Monday, August 17th from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm at Thompson Funeral Home, 530 Industrial Parkway S., Aurora, ON L4G 6W8

In time, there will be a Celebration of Life to honour Karyn and the remarkable life she shared with all of us. Details of the date and time will be announced when they have been determined.

Karyn leaves behind an enormous family, an extraordinary circle of friends, and a lifetime of love.

She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
