Ken passed away peacefully in his sleep after a long Alzheimer-related struggle. He will be sorely missed by his wife Betty, after 65 years of a happy, busy and fruitful marriage. Also grateful to have shared in his love and caring, are his four children, Kelly, Pat, Bill (Vivianne) and Bob (Stephanie) all of whom admired , respected and loved the fellowship of their dad. Also missing him are eight strong and resilient grandchildren who loved his fellowship and inspiration and six great-grandchildren, too young to know what they missed.
Ken was an avid entrepreneur, businessman and athlete who added enthusiasm and optimism to every undertaking. He founded Sinclair-Cockburn Insurance in 1953, founded and built Timberland Athletic Club in 1986, was co-founder of Canada’s National Tennis Centre at York University, was a member of Canada’s, Ontario’s and Aurora’s Sports Halls of Fame, holder of many singles and doubles (with Lorne Main) international tennis championships, a Life Member and former President of the Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling Club, co-established the first Canadian tennis “bubble”, co-founder and operator of the all-Canadian Academy in London, Ontario, for training elite junior players, served on the CLTA Executive, chairman of the Canadian Open Tennis Championships from 1969 to 1983 and helped to negotiate corporate sponsorships for Tennis Canada.
Besides all that he found time for hockey, curling, fishing, hunting and golf at Eagle Creek in Florida and Beacon Hall in Aurora.
