Born on July 9th, 1928, Lorna was a cornerstone of Kettleby, living in the very village she was born in for almost 80 years, and maintaining connections after her move to Aurora. She cherished her memories of childhood and adulthood there, and recalled stories of great adventures and friendships. Over her 98 years, she witnessed profound world history—living through wars, sweeping societal changes, and nearly a hundred years of local history. Yet, while her roots were anchored deep in her home community, her spirit was boundless.
Lorna possessed a remarkable curiosity about the world, and was known to keep newspaper clippings, photos, and information tucked away for reference and conversations. She loved to travel, always eager to explore new places, meet new faces, and hear stories from all walks of life. To know her was to feel heard, as her genuine warmth and kindness made everyone around her feel valued. Above all, she was defined by her selflessness, consistently putting the needs, comfort, and happiness of others ahead of her own.
While she loved exploring different parts of the world, the north/Muskoka area called to her the most. Lorna’s most cherished moments were spent at the family cottage on Lake of Bays. Whether hosting lively gatherings with lifelong friends, playing euchre, boating to Dorset, or enjoying her family’s lakeside adventures, the cottage was her sanctuary of joy, laughter, and connection.
She is survived by her 2 children, Linda and Larry; daughter-in-law Carolyn (Joe); her 5 grandchildren and partners, Kristi and Krishna; Jeffrey and Melodie; Jennifer and Dave; Alison, Matthew; and her 5 great-grandchildren, Maddox, Isabel, Phoebe, Everett, and Harrison, all of whom carry forward her legacy of love, curiosity, and compassion. She was predeceased by husband Earl and son Harold.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Thompson Funeral Home, Tribute Hall, 530 Industrial Parkway South, Aurora, ON L4G 6W8, on September 5, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to The Toronto Star Fresh Air Fund (https://www.thestar.com/initiatives/fresh-air-fund/). A special thanks to the attentive and caring staff at AgeCare Aurora.

I Am With You Still
I give you this one thought to keep
I am with you still--do not weep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn’s rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not think of me as gone--
I am with you still--in each new dawn.
