(1913-2011)
Peacefully, on August 14, 2011 in her 99th year, at Southlake Regional Health Centre, Newmarket, where she was recuperating after a fall. Beloved wife of the late Sidney Samuels. She’ll be sorely missed by her relatives and friends for her smile, amazing conversation, and her quick wit.
Margery was born in Sault Ste. Marie, the middle of five children who have all predeceased her, Spencer, Gwen, Arnold and Lynn. Margery spoke often about her love for her parents and the wonderful upbringing they had. Her mother, Isabelle Spencer was a fixture at the organ at the Baptist Church and her father Hugh, was the Chief of Police. Margery also enjoyed a great relationship with many nieces and nephews and always looked forward to their visits.
A wonderfully flamboyant lady, Margery was a resident of King City for over 50 years and has been enjoying life at Amica in Newmarket in recent years. To meet her was to remember her, largely because of her trademark love of hats, jewellery, and bright red lipstick, all of which was only outdone by her huge personality and love of people. She was always the best dressed lady in the room, accessorized wonderfully with large earrings and bangley bracelets. Margery never went anywhere where she wasn't well known to fellow patrons, restaurant owners, or just someone passing by. Her contributions to her community, her love of travel and politics and her enthusiasm for life made her a fascinating lady.
A celebration of Margery’s life will be held at York Pines United Church, 3150 Lloydtown/Aurora Rd., Kettleby, on Saturday September 3, 2011 at 2:00 to be followed by tea and sweets. Her wish was to be cremated and her ashes will be scattered in a private ceremony.
In her memory, Margery would have appreciated donations to support Oak Ridges Moraine Trust or World Vision. Online condolences may be made at www.thompsonfh-aurora.com.
