It is with sadness we announce the peaceful death of Martha Virginia Smith (Ginny) at Southlake Regional Health Centre on Friday July 1, 2022, after a short illness. Ginny was predeceased by her husband Geoff in late 2019, and spent the past two years planning his recent Celebration of Life at St. Andrew’s College in Aurora.
Ginny grew up in Ottawa, the daughter of W.A. (Bill) and Jean (Horrell) Atkinson. After graduation, she worked in administration at Bishop Strachan School in Toronto. She married Geoff in 1966 and supported his teaching and administrative career at St. Andrew’s College, Aurora, King’s-Edgehill School in Windsor, NS, and Canada College Italy to wind out ‘their’ career. Ginny was known for her friendly manner, her memory of names and faces, “Den Mother” to many students, and her ability to mostly control Geoff!
A Celebration of Life will take place at Thompson’s Funeral Home in Aurora, on Sunday July 24, 2022 from 2-4 p.m. Interment will be a private family affair in Midland at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to the Southlake Regional Heath Centre or the St. Andrew’s College Foundation in Ginny’s name.
