Monty was born on September 16, 1940 and grew up in Leaside, Ontario. He was the middle child of four siblings. Monty was an active young person with many interests. He developed a lifelong love for golf and was a skilled woodworker. Graduating from Toronto Metropolitan University, formerly Ryerson Polytechnic University, Monty achieved a Business Management Degree and a Diploma in Marketing.
Monty was a hardworking man, working in various fields including sales for Procter and Gamble, purchaser for Imperial Oil and as a business teacher at Victoria Park Secondary School in Toronto. He was also strongly entrepreneurial, owning several businesses including his first business in furniture and cabinetry building.
Monty met Donna and they were married in 1979. Together they embarked on a vibrant and loving marriage that lasted 46 years. At the age of 40, Monty felt called by God and surrendered his life to the Lord. Fully aware of his need to leave his current employment and work in Christian ministry, Monty took a leap of faith and left his job to join the The 700 Club out of Virginia Beach, USA and work in their Canadian office.
Continuing to trust God’s guidance, and although he did not feel equipped, Monty proceeded to establish a Canadian fundraising company and out of that was born Master Financial Planning Services Inc. This company, he felt would make a difference in the world and Monty eventually became responsible for raising millions of dollars for the work of Christ through churches and parachurch organizations.
While running his business, Monty also worked to achieve his financial planning designation. It was during this time that Monty realized the need for people to receive financial guidance which led him to write his first successful book titled “Money Management”, followed by another book “What Every Christian Should Know About Money Management”. Monty and Donna worked together in their business for 28 years.
Monty was the most faithful and loving husband. His kindness, thoughtfulness, and unique character made him a truly treasured partner in life. While raising his family, Monty was a loving father who took great pride in all his children; Scott, Brett, Heidi, Emily and Peter, each of whom held a special place in his heart. He was also an amazing grandfather, showing great love & support while participating in the lives of his grandchildren. Monty was also blessed with an extended family who cared for him deeply, especially in his final illness. Sister-in-law, Susan, and brother-in-law, Andrew, and their children, were an incredible support for Monty.
Throughout his lifetime, Monty remained steadfast in his faith and was well-known for his encouragement of people and interest in their lives. Monty spent time on other people, not just himself. He turned his life lessons into two more books called “Well That’s The Way I See It”, and “Priorities : Inspiration For Busy People”.
Following a lengthy career, Monty happily retired to his lifelong love of woodworking and began to build guitars. His skill shone through over 30 guitars handcrafted with mother-of-pearl inlay, and made from rare woods such as Australian and Brazilian black-wood; many of them going to musicians, friends, and family. He chose to share his love of guitar making by creating a YouTube channel devoted to teaching his skills and connecting with like-minded individuals.
Throughout his retirement Monty also generously gave of his time and friendship by volunteering for over 15 years at Southlake Cardiac Rehabilitation Centre. Helping and encouraging others who faced medical challenges was dear to his heart.
Monty‘s final enjoyment and pastime was writing his two fiction books, “Chasing after Justice” and “Assault on Justice”, the latter which was recently published on Amazon during his illness. He said that he had “so much fun writing them” and he couldn’t say enough about his experience!
God gave Monty a blessed life in so many ways, which he often acknowledged. His final days, as he courageously suffered from a brain tumour were not the end of his life - for he is now in the presence of his Lord Jesus. On the day Monty died, the “YouVersion” Bible app Verse of the Day was “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (Timothy 4:7). Indeed, Monty has gone on to receive his heavenly reward, to be with his “Rock and his Redeemer”(Psalm 19:14).
