July 13, 1950-May 24, 2019
Passed away peacefully at home in Aurora with his wife of 40 years, Karen (nee Simpson) holding his hand. He had lived with Frontal Lobe Syndrome Dementia for many years.
Glenn is survived by his son, Robert and daughter-in- law Sandra of Dubai; mother Betty Williams (father Bob deceased) of Collingwood; sister Bonnie Porter (Bill) of Kingston; sister Catherine Fontein (Stephen) of Collingwood; sister-in-law Helen Hubel (Martin) of Thornhill, and by his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Glenn was raised in Barrie, Ontario and graduated from Ryerson University in graphic arts, After working in the graphic arts field in Toronto, he and his wife moved to Orangeville where he worked as a plant manager for a plastics company (UNX) for many years. This led to employment at Corma Inc., a plastics machinery manufacturing firm.
Glenn was a jack-of-all-trades person who enjoyed maintaining his homes throughout the years. He was very interested in computers from the very beginning. In the early years, he built customized computers and continuously upgraded parts every time they became available. This inspired interest in his son, Rob, at a very early age. Years later, Rob graduated with a Bachelor of Computer Science degree from the University of Waterloo and started his own business.
Glenn was also very interested in flying. He took ground school classes but work intervened and found him travelling throughout the world. However his son joined air cadets and eventually earned his private pilot licence.
Glenn was also very interested in investing and personal finance. He began saving for his retirement in his late teens and managed his own portfolio for many years.
Glenn lived his life the way he wanted to: Marriage; son; personal interests; a quiet, family-oriented lifestyle. The money he saved to enjoy his retirement was ultimately used for his medical expenses in his sixties. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A private family celebration of life will be held at the Thompson Funeral Home, 530 Industrial Parkway South, Aurora. Donations to Southlake Regional Health Centre Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
