While the family experienced the gradual loss of Shirley over recent years due to the challenges of dementia, they find peace knowing she is now at rest. She is reunited with her beloved husband, Frank, who predeceased her in 2009.
Shirley’s greatest pride was her family, to whom she gave endless love and devotion. She was the loving mother to Cathy (Andy), Nancy (late Frank), Bill and Sheila (Doug). Adored Nanny to Adam, Lauren, Matt, Shaun, Sarah and proud Great-Grandmother to Josh, Emma, Ella, and Anna.
Shirley was defined by her incredible energy and a lifelong love for staying active. Her days were often filled with the camaraderie of family and friends, frequently centered around her passion for tennis (local and provincial champion) and golf (35+ years at Westview Golf Club). She was known for a fierce competitive spirit—a trait that lives on as a cherished legacy in her children and grandchildren. She was frequently spotted walking for miles in the town of Aurora regardless of the weather.
Even during her time at The Meadows, Shirley remained a familiar and active presence, often seen walking the halls and exploring the grounds alongside her family, staff, and volunteers. Her quick wit and distinctive sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
The family wishes to extend their deepest, most heartfelt thanks to the entire community at The Meadows. The kindness and support provided by the staff, Dr. Lim, and the resident's family members and volunteers over the past few years provided immense comfort to both Shirley and her family.
A private family service will be held to celebrate her remarkable life. You are invited to donate to the Alzheimer’s Society of York Region in memory of Shirley.
