I met Sylvia at a party in High school. I went to a different school than her, and had a short corespondents with her.I am just hearing of her passing now . I am so sorry for you all.
 Though my friendship with her was short, she has always been in my thoughts. I imagine she had that impact on everyone that was fortunate enough to have known her.

Thinking of those you left behind today.  I pray they feel you.

Today I thought of Syl and the family she left behind and wanted to extend warm wishes to Marc, Seren and Laurence this holiday season.  Sylvia is gone but not forgotten.

The staff at Herbert Carnegie Public School had a potluck lunch yesterday.   we knew that Sylvia loved people gathering, celebrating and sharing food.   Sylvia's presence was warmly remembered.

I grew up on the same street with Sylvia and her childhood family and have known her for many years.  Although we were not close friends, Sylvia always made time for a warm neighbourly chat, thoughtfully inquiring about my family, my life, my interests.  Sylvia was genuine and kind, and I very much enjoyed these friendly conversations with her.  It was nice to stay in touch this way, even later on, as adults.  I was shocked and saddened to recently hear of her passing and my thoughts and prayers go out to all of her family and friends.  Sylvia will be missed, but never forgotten.

Mrs. Strachan-Davidson was my grade 4 teacher. I will never forget the kindness and warmth she brought to our school. She loved the nature dearly, and would bring sunflower seeds from her garden for us students to munch on while she taught us science. She was a wonderful teacher and will never be forgotten. I hope for her family to remember that she will always be looking over them from high up. Rest in peace ?

Sylvia was a friend of mine. I met her in groups I was in. I will miss her greatly. She was a great friend. I know she also loved her family very much. She was a very kind person. I used to see her around town at diffrent events. She was very involved in the community. She loved her job as a teacher. I also know she liked to garden I am a member at the WomenÃ¨s Center. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends. I will never forget Sylvia.

Laurence and Seren, years from now when you see photos of your beautiful mother and wonder more about her, you need to know in your heart that she was an amazing person and a great teacher.  Your mother had a way of impacting and inspiring everyone she met- students, parents and staff alike.  Her smile, her kindness, her words and her actions said so much to so many.  When I was selected to open a new school three years ago, I was elated when your mother decided to join this staff and dedicate so much time, energy and love to opening Herbert H. Carnegie P.S.  Like everything that your mother did in life, she put her heart and soul into our school. Sylvia was always a wonderful person to be around.   Our friendship started at U of T,  we lost touch a few years ago and I was always curious what she was up to.  I ran into her a year or so ago at an event in town and had the pleasure of meeting her husband and two beautiful children.    Typical Syl, the moment we saw each other it was like no time had passed and her warmth and smile were as bright and wonderful as ever.   My heart goes out to family, friends, husband and especially her children for the loss of such an amazing woman.

My Dearest Syl,
I wonder if you know how much you touched my life or how many times I have thought of you or tried to find you.  I found peace when mutual friends would tell me they had seen you or told me what you were up to.
You were my roommate in university...but you were so much more.  Within a few short months of living with you I was a vegetarian (to the horror of my family), not because you preached it, but by your example.  You were our den mother in rez, the calm voice of reason and love.  So many memories have flooded back since I learned of your passing yesterday, it's as if I can see you and even hear the intonation of your voice.  
Funny, I've had your high school grad picture you gave me always within reach despite many moves...it wasn't meant to be in a box of memorabilia.  On the back in faded writing it reads "A superficial grad picture-It really isn't me-promise!?  Syl XO Peace Sign.
Know I will cherish every memory and your message to live life to the fullest!

I just want to tell you how sorry I am for your loss. Obviously, I didn't know too much about Sylvia's struggles but I do know what a wonderful, thoughtful friend she has been to my sister. The times I spent with her will live in my memories. She will not be forgotten.

As I read through your guest book I wonder if you really knew the full extent to which you had such a positive impact on peoples lives.  Your smile!  That full laugh where you'd throw your head way back.  The way you listened, empathized, and counseled.  In Rez there was no amount of study stress that a quick break with you & Lor couldn't erase, and then it would be back to work!  You were the glue that could put everything back right when the rest of us weren't getting along.  When Lor's face got sunburned to a crisp the first day of our Spring Break vacation with Court on Margarita Island we just switched gears from the beach vacation we'd planned and went dancing all night long instead.   We had the week of our lives despite having to stay out of the sun! You were my closest friend through my years at UofT.  I miss ya Syl.  May you continue to inspire us.  My heart goes out to your family.

Sylvia was the cherished "little sister" of my dear friend, Andrea.  Unlike most younger siblings, Sylvia was always welcomed into our "mature" circle of friends!  She brought laughter, warmth and spunk to our get togethers ,and always had positive comments to share . A  very clear memory I have is  of Sylvia  cuddled on her family couch between Carol and Andrea, their arms  wrapped around each other, our circle of friends sprawled on the floor, with all of us  just  laughing and enjoying our company.  My sincerest condolences.

Syl, I met you about a year ago, we shared tears, stories, laughter, hugs and a beautiful friendship. You always were trying to fix everyone and everything. I met Sylvia only several times over the years. But I remember her as the sunny, saucy and beautiful woman introduced to me by my friend Andrea, who loved, adored and worried over her sister and spoke of her often. Our family sends our deepest regrets to yours, Andrea, along with all our love and best wishes.

Sylvia-Ann was a wonderful friend.  We attended the womens group together and I always enjoyed talking with her.  She will be dearly missed but never forgotten.  May you rest in peace Sylvia.

I remember Sylvia as a child living in Eagle Heights, sharing a room with Andrea. It made it a challenge to have a sleep over.  She was a bright and happy child and always seemed to be so mature--likely that older sister as she was keeping up.  We went to the cabin with Kay and Carrie one year, Andrea and I hung out and there was Carrie and Sylvia hanging out too.  What fun we had, swimming and talking and packing on to that swing on the porch.  I recall her again, when Jim and I visited on our honeymoon and remember thinking what a beautiful young women she had become in the few short years since I had seen her.   The kids (Clay, Annie and Grace) and I remember seeing her again when she was pregnant for the first time and spending the afternoon by the pool and enjoying her lovely home and beautiful yard.   Sylvia was wonderful and will be so missed.

I prefer not to speak of pain and longing, but about the joy of had the opportunity to meet you.
On a beautiful afternoon of last summer we had the privilege of sharing your company and learn more about your personality. From this meeting, the most striking memory is your happy smile, playing with Laurence and Seren in the garden.
Among loud guffaws, you rolled with them on the grass and went under the swing in motion. While we played you spoked about the desire to relearn the language of the country where you was born and spent your childhood and displayed proudly, Laurence’s advancements in learning Portuguese.
Then, next to Marc, with the same resolve and joy, you affectionately welcomed family and friends and without great effort, made us feel at home, enjoying extremely pleasant moments around the table on the balcony.
Of this happy meeting remained, apart from photos, the memory of your vivacious eyes, your smile and cheerful certainty that, wherever you are, you will always be a special star in our universe of friendship and affection.

I can remember her smile and her laughter like it was yesterday. She was always smiling. I will never forget you Sylvia.

When my son Michael was 5 years old he fell in love with Sylvia.  Yes, I mean really fell in love.  He kept a framed picture of Sylvia in his bedroom, which at the time was in her early twenties, and he would hold that picture in his little hands and just stare into her "beautiful blue eyes".  He kept that photo in his room until he was 12 or 13.  Through out the years I would remind Michael of his deep infatuation for Sylvia.  We would laugh because it seemed so unusual to me that such a young boy could experience such intense feeling for someone.  But Michael would always respond to my gentle teasing by saying "Well, it just goes to show you Mom I have great taste". Yes, my son Michael has impeccable taste.  It's that sixth sense that children have about people they meet.  Michael intuitively knew Sylvia was someone with a kind and gentle and loving soul.  Someone he could trust with his heart. 

My whole family loved and cherished Sylvia and it was easy for us to see that when Michael looked into her "beautiful blue eyes" he was able to see right to her beautiful kind and gentle and loving soul, which we all immediately embraced.

I saw Sylvia as a giver, never wanting to take from anyone or be a burden to anyone.  She was always concerned for my well being before her own. My heart breaks for her family and I am deeply sorry for your loss.  Sylvia will always be a part of those she touched.

I will dearly miss my beautiful Sylvia.  I will never forget her beaming smile.  I will cherish our time together; meeting in S.Korea, BBQ´s, sleepovers with Syl and Gioia in TO, endless cups of coffee and conversation in the Annex, plain silliness! We had such an amazing time, Syl/Seren, Gioia/Julian, Me/Sienna as we explored Germany together.  My heart is with her family during this tragic time.  She touched us all.

Sylvia was one of the kindest,most honest and all around good person that I ever knew from my time at Aurora High. The few times that I did see her over the last few years none of that had changed. I'm so sorry for your loss. I met Sylvia recently and appreciated her insight & her sparkle.

We only saw her once when she welcomed us into her home with her family and treated us like we were old friends. It's hard to believe she is gone. For us she left an unforgettable smile and a joy for life that we saw in her very blue eyes. We will always remember her as a sweet and very special person, just as it was said here by so many people who were fortunate to be with her. We express our sorrow for this great loss to family and friends and we are praying that Sylvia finds peace.

Sylvia will always be remembered for the kind, sensitive, nurturing soul she was. She so graciously supported us when we needed her. Although we can't see her now she will always be by our side, unseen, unheard but in our hearts and thoughts forever. We will cherish the times we had together and remember them with fondness. My Memories of Sylvia 

For four years I had the privilege of working with Sylvia as her Principal at Brownridge Public School.  Sylvia was a valued staff member who at that time worked with students that required a great deal of support with both their learning and social skills.   Sylvia always brought out the best in her students.  Her patience, dedication and adaptive teaching skills were her strengths.  She always put her students first.  I remember one time when she coached the intermediate basketball team. Even though she was unsure about the coaching, she didn't want the students to miss the opportunity to be on a team so she continued through the season.   Before it was fashionable Sylvia made sure we all were eating the right foods and drinking green tea.   She was a true lover of the environment and her ECO clubs where the forefront at Brownridge making sure were taking care of our plants and recycling all our garbage.   
Sylvia shared of herself with both staff and students.  Her creative side was seen daily.  Often a card, plant pot or artwork would be on my desk and before I read the inscription I knew the lovely thought was from Sylvia and her students.  Sylvia shared moments in her life with her colleagues at Brownridge.   I recall when she told me about this fellow she met and the exciting news she was getting married and when the whole staff had so much fun at the baby shower when she was pregnant with her first baby girl.  Sylvia gave of herself daily and she was an important part of the Brownridge Public School family and we loved her. 
I am so glad I had the opportunity to work with Sylvia the teacher, colleague and friend. 
I will miss her.

I knew Sylvia through Andrea and I remember some very happy dinners we had together. On those occasions, Sylvia would always be sincerely interested in other people and what they were doing and thinking and she was very reflective. I didn't see her so much in recent years but when I did, we always picked up right where we left off. I will miss her frank opinions and I will always remember the interesting and entertaining conversations we had at various venues around Toronto.

Sylvia was one of my most favourite cousins! We had so many fun times together as kids. She was so sweet,caring and funny. I regret that as adults we rarely saw eachother. It is impossible to comprehend that she is gone. My heart goes out to her family during this most difficult time.

Sylvia embodied love and peace.  She taught all the people who had the fortune to have met her about her love of the earth and of all people.  She was endlessly generous in her selfless giving.  Her body may be gone, but her legacy lives on in her family, friends, and students.  Humanity lost a huge part of its heart and soul the day Sylvia departed.  I'll be looking for a new star as I look up into the night sky.  She will be watching over us with her glorious smile, and sending us her love forever.

Sylvia was a little girl when I met her for the first time and I was just five years older.  She was one of my "cousins from Brazil" - Andrea, Peter, Carlos and Sylvia. I was so excited to finally meet Sylvia and my cousins that I had not quite taken into account the fact that they spoke Portugese and I spoke English. They were the most wonderful surprise and I was enchanted with them all. I remember them running up and down the stairs and into the downstairs bedrooms at a family reunion my mother had organized when they arrived.  Sylvia was so sweet and so easy to love that it didn't matter if I couldn't understand a word she said. When I was a teenager I was invited to camp with my cousins and Sylvia was just as loving as she had been as a child.  I have not seen Sylvia, except for in pictures, for several years but I know she remained as lovely as always. I also know that Seren and Laurence are both very much like their mother as I have been told that they are sweet and beautiful too. Sylvia left all that goodness into two little girls and for that we are all so very grateful.

Our thoughts and hearts are with you during this time of tremendous loss. Syl was introduced to us by one of her closest friends, and I looked forward to the visits, but moreso the opportunity to get to know her better myself. Somestimes, beautiful people are drawn away too soon.

I am lucky to have countless memories of my beautiful blue-eyed sister with the perfect smile. I can hear her laughter every time I laugh out loud; so happy to have some of her in me. I will share all that I have of her with Laurence and Seren so that they will continue to remember the wonderfull person that she was. I love you Syl, and although I'm not quite sure how to move on without you, I will try to find some of the courage that you demonstrated as you journeyed along your much too short lifeline.

Sylvia I will miss our friendship terribly.  While we didn't see each other more than a few times a year, Heath and I consider you among our closest friends.  We will not easily forget your bone crushing hugs and sincere smiles.  Thank you for being who you are, we will love you always.

My warmest sympathy goes out to Sylvia's family and to the Davidsons. I did not know Sylvia, but her brother-in-law, Adam, and his wife Amy are good friends of mine in Portland, OR, and I have heard such wonderful things about her. I was really touched to see the video of Sylvia doing a dress-up fashion show with her girls during their visit in July. She is remembered as a truly amazing and courageous person.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss, my deepest condolencences go to you and your family. She was truly a specail person who touch our lives and hearts.

I am still in shock over the news of Sylvia's death.  Syl and I went to University together and became fast friends over a seriation assignment for Archaeology.  We spent hours manipulating little pieces of paper on the floor of my house in residence, trying to find out when one style of pottery went out of style for another.  Sylvia was a wonderful person, a loyal friend, a great listener, a great dancer and a fantastic cook.  Thinking of all of you, her family, during this very difficult time.  Your mother/wife/daughter will be sincerely missed.

I think it was Ben Okri who wrote that there are those that belong to the world of spirits. They come to earth to flutter like butterflies and live on earth always in danger of leaving it, as the other spirits are always calling to them, trying to seduce them to come back to the spirit world and play - where there is no suffering and no tangible connection to the world of man - which begs and calls to these fluttering butterfly people most of their earthly lives.  

My memories are conjuring her and my thoughts and my heart are with her loved ones. You will be missed.

Sylvia and I worked together in korea. Despite the sometimes trying conditions Syvia never lost her sense of humor. She was an excellent workmate and friend. We lost touch when we moved to different countries, but I am glad to hear she had a successful life and had made so many friends. Sylvia will be missed by many.

I went to high school with Sylvia and though I did not keep in touch with her over the years I am shocked and so deeply saddened to hear the news of her passing. Thinking back today, reflecting on high school and on my memories of Sylvia through the lens of time, I believe she was an old soul even then. My memories of her are all fond: I remember a warm, fun-loving, intelligent, kind, and beautiful person inside and out. My heartfelt and deepest condolences go out to her friends and family who are trying to come to terms with this tragic loss. I am so very sorry...

  I did not know Sylvia well, but I have been in Laurence's kindergarten class as an EA. It was a pleasure to have Sylvia join us on field trips and on special days in our classroom.  My deepest condolences to Marc, Laurence and Seren.  May you find peace in her memory.

One of the fondest memories I have of Sylvia is when she would saunter in to the staff room, with coffee cup in hand, and a big smile on her face.  Another one is seeing her sitting on the floor, in the halls of Brownridge, with her "Enviro" kids all around her!  What fun they had creating beautiful posters!  Sylvia, you will be dearly missed by all who knew you.  My deepest sympathy to your family.

Mrs.Strachan was the best teacher i ever had, she was so accepting and caring of everyone. She tried pleasing everyone.I remeber feeeling so welcome when it was my first day at brownridge, I had her for grade 7 and 8, I will miss her even though i haven't seen her in a while. Ms. Strachan was my teacher at Brownridge public school she was on of the funniest teacher i ever had at brownridge. The one thing that always made me laugh about her was when she had cofffe she would have one cup of coffee put it down somewhere then the next minute ask where it went.Then as she left the clasroom she would say that she was going to get another cup of coffee then she couldtn find that one then a few minetues later she would find the first cup she had the first time. Syl was such a beautiful soul. She was always there for me, regardless of the time of day or circumstances around her. She would drop everything to help. She was like that with everybody. She touched my life in a most unforgettable way. To know that she is gone, and be so far away, leaves an indescribable emptiness in my heart. Her spirit leaves on forever in all of us. Sylvia was a wonderful friendly person, who I had the pleasure of meeting while at AHS. Our prayers are with her family and close friends at this time.

I knew Sylvia when we were at AHS in our teens.  She was a kind and gentle soul.  I'm so sorry to hear of her passing.  My most sincere condolences to her family.  My heart breaks for you all.

Sylvia was a profoundly gifted woman, and the world, my world, was a less lonely place with her in it. Dear fellow traveller, you are and will always be loved, missed and remembered. Love, support and strength to Marc, their children and family.

I met Sylvia when she was eight years old, and was always struck at what an incredibly "tender" child she was, yet at the same time, almost an adult at that age!  I always felt she was somehow a wise, older spirit surrounding us.  She was curious about her world and those she loved within it. She loved so openly...touched us all so deeply...we were lucky and blessed to have known her at all. She leaves a hole in my heart, a saddness in my step, but I am a better person for having known her.  I will love her and carry her with me forever.

my heart is broken. simply broken. I remember the first time we met, in the laundry room in Eagle Heights...You said...I no know English....I think I taught you pretty well. I will never forget the times we spent at campfire sing, the birthday calls, your encouraging words when I needed to smile, and the last word we spoke...good-bye love, we'll chat soon! I love you!.....You will always be in my heart, and will remain my bestest friend....Until we meet again....I love you to the moon and back!  Carri ann

I met Sylvia through her brother and as a fellow student at Aurora High.  She was a great person and it is very sad to hear of her passing.  My thoughts are with her family.  My deepest condolences.

Sylvia was such a wonderful, free spirit and I feel blessed to have known her, even for only 5 years. She brought a light and open heartedness to every gathering we had...You will be truly missed Syl. To Laurence, Seren and Marc, you are in our hearts & prayers.

I was a student of Miss Strachan's back in Brownridge for grades 7 and 8. She made a significant positive impact on my life. She believed in me and taught me many life long lessons. I am deeply saddened to hear about her loss. My thoughts go out to her family at this difficult time.

Like anyone, I am in disbelief for the circumstances around Sylvia's passing. We were highschool friends. Looking at her beautiful photo and hearing of how she had a beautiful family makes my heart sad and ache for them. It could be anyone of us which brings this much closer to home. From my family to yours, sincerest condolences and pray you somehow get through the grief and loss you feel. What a blessing she touched peoples lives the way she did while she was with us.

I knew Sylvia at Aurora High as a teenager. The world has lost such a wonderful person. My heart breaks for her family and friends during this difficult time. She was and always will be a guardian angel to all who knew her.
