My heart broke finding out this news. 

I am sending my love and condolences to the family during this extremely difficult time. 

I met Taylor while working at Dairy Queen in high school and he quickly became my best bud. I remember trying to line up my work schedule so that we could work together – he always made a long shift enjoyable and I would look forward to it if I knew he’d be there. I still remember the moment he asked me to his prom and thinking “We’ve made it. We’re real best buds, not just work best buds”.  He truly had such a kind heart and warm energy that everyone wanted to be around. 

I am so thankful for the years of friendship and for all the fun times and adventures together. His beautiful and genuine soul will be missed by so many.

Taylor, I wish I could have been there more for you. This is leaving me gutted. 

I'll always remember the time we spent together as some of the best times of my life. Camping, watching scary movies in Lindsay, that time I accidentally took the wrong exit on the hwy when driving you back to Aurora. You were one of the most lively people I have known and the world is a bit dimmer without you. I know you brought brightness to everyone you knew.

I went to Baythorn and UHS with Taylor where we would often share long drives from Newmarket and Aurora down to school. 

Taylor was a beautiful bright light that gave the best hugs. He left an impact on everyone he met. 

I’m devastated to learn of his passing. Sending love to the entire Eckert family. 

Taylor was my best friend in high school. Inseperable. I know for a fact I speak for everyone whose life was lit up by Taylor's spirit - he was energy and light and love and laughter and an adventure you didn't even know you wanted until you were already on it hand in hand with Taylor. I had the absolute privilege of spending years by his side. So many memories. He was impossible not to just absolutely fall in love with. 
I am heartbroken for his family who always welcomed me into their home when we were teens. I am heartbroken for all the lives he touched and lit up with his genuine love for others. 
I hope his soul has found the peace it so deserves. Rest well my dear friend.

For years Taylor was my rock.  He was the one person I can always count on and turn to for help, and support at DQ.  His wonderful smile and contagious laughter would always make any catastrophe seem minor and easier to overcome.   Together we became great friends and somewhere along the way we built this amazing bond that only  you and I understand.  I will always hold you close to my heart with lots of love.

I remember the feeling of your warm body next to mine when the three of us would sleep in Roxy’s single bed in the basement. All the Tarantino movies we used to watch together. Or how I’d let you talk at me for literal hours about marvel superheroes and villains, bored to death but feigning interest, because I love you and that’s what you do when you love someone. You just listen. No matter what.

I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to listen to you more lately. The fact that you entrusted me with the honour of being one of your support calls when you were having a hard time is something I’m only starting to wrap my head around. What a sacred thing. To be trusted like that. Thank you. I’m sorry.

I want you to know how much you freed me. It’s only in death that I’m really putting this together. I came from a strict household with no real sense of myself and you set me free. You allowed me the safe space to explore myself, my emotions, my dreams, my art and you did it with such unconditional encouragement and a heaping pile of sarcasm. You made me believe I was beautiful and brilliant. I am fierce and confident and all the things I want to be as a woman because of you. I hope you know that. I trust you know that.

When I heard the news yesterday I spent some time with a mutual friend looking through photos, reminiscing. Taylor was a warm light with incredible hugs and an infectious laugh. That’s how I remember him. When we were 15 we had an understanding of one another and I never was able to express to him how much it meant. I hope he knew that. I hope he knows it now. My most vivid memory is standing in a bucket with him with on a stage before the lights came up. I was shaking with nerves and he pressed his forehead to mine, “don’t be scared we’ve got this.” 

I lost touch with Taylor after high school, a phrase I think a lot of us swore we’d never say, yet here we are. I’ve scrolled through these messages and comments seeing so many familiar names. Please know if you’re reading this, I’ve thought of you and am thinking of you today. That’s the power of who Taylor is, a warm light with the power call us all home.

Taylor was one of the most electric, compassionate and hilarious human beings I had the pleasure of knowing. I remember you as kind, funny, welcoming, and extremely talented. Maybe my favourite memories come from the summers we spent working for your dad, painting rich people's houses and sneaking off for mischief.

Life took me away from Canada, but I looked forward to the day when we would reconnect, and I'll never forgive myself for not reaching out sooner.

P.S. I still have two watercolours you made in 10th grade sitting in my office that I stole from your locker. I always thought it would be funny to give them back to you one day when we were in our 50s or something. Now I'll never let them go.

I have such wonderful memories of Taylor's incredible smile. He would really light up a room with his easy sense of humour. Dear Eckert family,

I knew and worked with Taylor for a few years back at the Aurora Dairy Queen.

He was always such a fun spirit to be around and I think back fondly on the days I got to spend working with him, or getting together socially as the DQ team often did back then!

He always could put a smile on anyone’s face and so clearly had a genuine, kind soul. He will always hold a special place in my heart.
