Vivian Audrey Rossi (nee McCauley) of Newmarket escaped this mortal realm on April 20, 2021 at the grand old age of 97. She is looking toward a reunion with family and friends that she has not seen in a long time, and hoping to find the answers to some of life’s mysteries. Vivian was born to the late Lena and Thomas McCauley in 1924, in Garson Mines (near Sudbury) Ontario. Due to the unexpected death of her father, Vivian was brought to the care of an Orphanage at a young age. Once Lena re-married, Vivian was brought home and cared for by her mother Lena and step-father Mike Kushner.

After dating during the war years, she married Joseph Armand Rossi in 1948, and moved to North York. Sadly and unexpectedly her loving husband Joseph passed away in 1976. Happily, they are now reunited. Vivian is survived by three children: Paul Rossi (Nancy) of Brantford, Richard Rossi (Anna) of Bolton, and Linda Hautala (Ken) of Newmarket, four grandchildren: Joseph Rossi; Matthew Rossi; Diana Parrish (Rick); Julie Rossi; and two great-grandchildren: Joshua Parrish and Abigail Parrish. Vivian was also pre-deceased by all her siblings: Elwood McCauley, Doris Anness (nee McCauley), Frank Kushner (Helen), Gerald Kushner (Peggy), Joyce Kushner (Eugene), Murray Kushner (Mabel), and Wanda. She is fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews. Too many to list! She loved her family dearly and had a particular habit of taking in strays…animals as well as people. Just ask her son Richard.

Over the years Vivian had faced many challenges and survived them all due to her tenacity. Vivian surprised a lot of people (including herself) and all her doctors that she made it as long as she did. Her two favorite sayings were, “Getting old is the Pits”…Well, we can’t print the actual word she used; and always say “So Long, never Good-bye.”

Live Stream of the Family Funeral Ceremony will be held on Tuesday April 27, 2021 at 11am (please see the link beside service information) from the Thompson Funeral Home. The burial service will take place at approximately 1 p.m. via live-stream following the Service at Mount Hope Cemetery on 305 Erskine Ave in Toronto.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Vivian's memory may be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation, www.heartandstroke.ca; or St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Newmarket, Ontario, standrewsnewmarket.org.
