Dear Shirley and Greg,

Wayne was the most important person in my adult life.  I had a great career because of him. He would talk to me for half a day at a time in his office, and I leaned so much from him. Every time I came to or stopped over in Toronto while based overseas, I would visit him and he would always come out to have a drink and share news in Unionville. After I returned to Canada, I enjoyed so much with him to have a coffee a few times every year. I was looking forward to our next coffee time. 

I do want to tell Wayne one piece of news today: I just got an astrophysics article published in a peer reviewed journal with a mathematical model and data proving that eternal universe can actually be more to the truth than the popular big bang cosmology. This potentially may overthrow the big bang, by his student from Nielsen’s Stat Research. I know Wayne will be proud. Wayne will always be with me and with us as the universe is eternal. We will have our coffee time again.

Looking back on my life I have been lucky to have had a few special people have a big part in it, Wayne was definitely one of them, a good friend, a gracious host, a fun team mate (touch football)  and a very supportive Nielsen colleague. An all round great guy.

I remember  fondly the fun times we had at Wayne and Shirley’s when we were neighbours in Scarborough. Lots of laughs, always a bottle of whiskey on the table and listening to the sounds of “bat out of hell” by Meat Loaf…

Wayne hired me and I reported to him for 25 of my 37 years.  He may have been the smartest person that I’ve ever known and was an amazing asset to Nielsen.  His recall was amazing and it took him 2 seconds to find one wrong number on a page full of numbers.  He was always protective of his employees, was valued very highly by the company and refused to take any shit from anyone.  He was a great mentor for myself and others.  He knew how to have a good time and I enjoyed spending time with him in and out of work.
He was a Great Man and I will miss him dearly.  Our deepest condolences to his family.

Our difference in age was there so you could mentor me. I always knew you had my back and could add perspective when I needed you.  You fought hard and loved harder.
