Born in New Orleans, LA to Rev. Vernon D. Simpson (deceased) and Genoa Schaubhut Simpson (deceased), Carolyn grew up in Theodore, AL with her brothers Charles and Riley (deceased). She was a graduate of William Carey College with a major in Physical Education and minors in Education, Psychology and History. Throughout her college years she was honored as homecoming queen and on the homecoming court.
Carolyn went on to become a PE teacher at Ben C. Rains High School and Semmes Jr. High School in her early years before devoting her life to her family, full time. After a brief courtship, Carolyn married the love of her life, George, in December of 1967, and traveled all over the country with him throughout his many years of service with the VA Hospital. "Memaw,", as she was affectionately known, was most passionate about her family, friends, Jesus, Alabama football, and politics ~ and not necessarily in that order. She was loyal, compassionate, spunky, quick-witted, fiercely-loving, and brutally honest until the very end. With her words, she could make you laugh, make you cry, mend the broken hearted and heal the sick. She was everyone's best friend and will be forever cherished and eternally missed.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, George Rodman III, her children Denny (Maria) Rodman, Kristen (Joe) Ewer, and Kara Hooks, her grandchildren Chase (Elaine), Ashley (Nick), Andrew, Autumn (Victor), Auburn (Alex), Paige, Joey, Fernando, and Skyler her great grandchildren Tinley and Emerson, brother Charles Simpson and many nieces, nephews, and close friends. Carolyn was a devoted member of the Hill Country Bible Church for many years.
