OBITUARY

Alice Faye Blackwell

10 September, 1926 – 25 July, 2020
IN THE CARE OF

Cook-Walden Funeral Home

On September 10, 1926 a lovely flower was rooted and given the name Alice Fay Mickens. She was perfectly designed for her mother Vera Williams Mickens and Father Joseph Mickens in Paris, Texas.

With her family’s regular attendance at the MT. Cannon B.C., Alice accepted Christ at an early age, and loved and honored Him with all her heart. Alice graduated from Gibbson High School and soon thereafter met and married the love of her life, the late J.D. Blackwell. From this union two children were born, Joslyn Ann and Brenda Kay.

As her health began to decline, Alice moved to Austin to live with her daughter Brenda Washington. Early Friday morning, July 25, 2020, Alice became a full blossomed rose, taking the Master’s hand and accepting His promise of eternal life.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Joslyn Ann; brothers Joseph Jr. and F.L. Mickens; and sister Thelma Mickens. She is survived by daughter Brenda Kay Washington; nephew Kenneth Mickens; grandchildren Sherika, Latronda and Brandon Washington and Shatronda White; and six great-grandchildren.

The family of Alice Blackwell expresses sincere thanks with appreciation for visits, flowers, cards, tokens of love and expression of sympathy shown to us during our time of bereavement. Your many kind interactions have been a blessing to us.

Special thanks also to Alice’s caregivers for many years: Sherika Washington, St. David’s Hospital, Legend Oaks Rehabilitation Center, Hospice and Meals on Wheels.

May God bless and keep each of you.
