

Alice Castro Garcia passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at the age of 72 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born to parents Salvador and Carmen Castro on February 23, 1942 in Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco, Mexico and grew up in Guadalajara Mexico. Alice immigrated to the United States at a young age, where she attended Incarnate Word Academy in Brownsville, Texas and studied to learn English. She became a U.S. resident and later a U.S. citizen.
She met the love of her life Arturo Garcia, while he was in the United States Marine Corps and they married in 1971 and subsequently moved to Austin, Texas. They had two children, Arturo M. Jr. and Nicole Marie Garcia. Alice worked at Art Carved Inc. for many years and in 1992 decided to start her own business, Nicole Marie Company, where she designed women's apparel and directed the production of her own line of clothing. She was also in charge of a multifaceted marketing plan for her business by tackling retail, wholesale and internet sales. She loved to do Arts and Crafts and Jr. League trade shows all over Texas and other surrounding states. She was a strong business woman who took to the business world like a duck to water. She loved and appreciated her customers and those who worked for her. To know her, was to love her. Alice had a kind and generous spirit, and most of all she had an immense ambition and passion for life, her family, and her business. An inspiration to her family and everyone around her, she will be missed. She was a small lady with a huge heart and lived her dream to the very end.
She is survived by her husband Arturo Garcia, daughter Nicole Marie, her younger siblings; Juanita Benegas, Carmen Gomez, and Armando Castro, and many close relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her son, Arturo M. Jr., her parents Salvador and Carmen Castro and her brothers Juan Antonio Castro and Francisco Javier Castro.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at 6 pm to 9 pm and Rosary at 7 pm at Weed-Corley Fish South Funeral Home at 2620 South Congress Avenue Austin, Texas.
Church services will be on Monday, January 12, 2015 at 10 am at San Jose Catholic Church, 2435 Oak Crest Avenue, Austin Texas, 78704. Burial will follow the church service at Forest Oaks Memorial Park, 6300 W. William Cannon Drive, Austin, Texas 78749.
