God took another precious Angel home. Alice Broyhill Niebuhr, born May 20, 1923 in Dakota City, Nebraska, moved her residence to Heaven with God on February 27, 2012, leaving a trail of tears to follow for all who loved this warm, loving, God fearing wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother.
Alice moved to Texas with her husband, Vern, in 1964 to be with her daughter and get away from the cold weather in the Midwest. She later left San Antonio and moved to Austin to be with her daughter and grandchildren.
She worked at the Richter’s Bakery in San Antonio for 20 years and then at Buttercrust until her retirement. Alice worked very hard long hours and was loved by all her co-workers.
She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Lyn James and husband Hank; granddaughters Robyn Butler (Jack), Kari Monk, Scott Askew, and Lori Johnson (Drew); 11 great grandchildren, Jennifer, Cheryl, Charlie, & Khandace Monk, Stephen Bankston, Kaylyn, Casey, and Stephanie Butler; Dustin, Kelsi and Allye Johnson; 5 great great grandchildren, Diego, Rebekah, Georgia, Seth, and Lexi (her baby dolly). She is also survived by her two brothers, Rod and Lawrence Broyhill; “adopted” sons Jerry Feldman and Sammie & Dannie Johnson, along with many who called her Mom or Grama and so many close friends the list would run to Heaven.
Alice was preceded in death by her loving husband Vern; her two sons, Dennis and Steven; her parents, six sisters, and two brothers.
GG Grama, as she was lovingly named by Rebekah and called by most everyone, was loved by anyone who knew her. She loved going to the Senior Day at her church and playing Skipbo with her partner in crime, Alma. Even when her hearing went bad, she still loved going to church and praising the God she loved. She was also an Honorary Member of the Bastrop County Citizen Sheriff’s Academy Alumni Association.
Pallbearers will be Hank James, Jack Butler, Drew Johnson, Scott Askew, Stephen Bankston, Casey Butler, Dustin Johnson, and Charles Ring. Honorary Pallbearers will be her great great grandsons, Diego Johnson and Seth Bankston.
