To Carey and entire Taylor family:
So sorry for your loss.  We share in the loss of "Curly" as well.  It was always a pleasure and a privilege to have been associated with him as a friend and thru common interest in coaching.  He was  very professional in his coaching endeavors treating his players and coaches with the utmost respect.   He will be missed and you have our deepest sympathy and regards.

Alton has been a kind and caring neighbor for many years, such a Gentle Giant!  My personal interaction with Alton centered around our mutual love of gardening!  I always admired his lawn and landscaping!  We shared plants, and sometimes the "fruit" of our gardening labor!  I will miss seeing my friend working in his yard, sharing a smile and a wave!  My prayers continue for his beloved wife Carey, and their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren!  

Rest in Peace, Alton!  I will miss you!

My condolences and prayers are offered to Carey, her daughters and grandchildren.  I enjoyed many evenings playing bridge with Carey and other friends as a young mother.  Carey's and Curly's youngest daughter was a classmate of one of my daughters.  I met Curly only a few times, but, while doing volunteer work at a local clinic, I learned a bit more about Curly's character and coaching.  A woman who worked at the clinic told me that her son was a senior at Johnston High School.  I told her I knew their football coach, Curly Taylor.  The woman teared up and said, "Coach Taylor is responsible for my son getting a football scholarship to TCU!"  I realized that this woman's son wasn't likely the only one who received this level of caring from my friend Carey's husband.  His obituary confirmed what I already thought.  He clearly was a man worthy of praise and remembrance.  He doubtlessly changed the lives for the better of many young men who passed through the Johnston High School football program.  This is a life well lived.

My Sincerest Condolences to the Taylor Family. I went to Johnston High School from 1974 - 1978.
I play football at Johnston, so I got to know Coach Taylor. I got to know him a little better when I played Varsity football my Jr. & Sr. Years. As has been said, Coach Taylor was Tough, but I got to see the kinder, caring side of him. Yes, although he was our Football coach, our Education was most important to him. 
He instilled "No Pass, No Play", even before it became Law. It didn't matter how good you were, if you weren't passing your classes, you didn't play. If you got a D or F, you ran extra laps. I was and A & B student, but I got a C once and he had me run extra laps, because he knew I could do better. That was one of many Life-Lessons (slacking off is not acceptable) I learned from him.
