

Alvin Howard Burkey was born March 4, 1936 in Hubbard, Ohio and was the son of Elizabeth and Jesse Burkey. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on July 6, 2012 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.
He graduated from Hubbard High School in 1954 in Hubbard, Ohio. He was employed by Youngstown Sheet and Tube Steel Mill, Youngstown, Ohio from 1955 to 1986 and Texas Department of Public Safety, Austin, Texas from 1987 to 1998.
Howard was preceded in death by wife and mother of his children Barbara. He is survived by daughters Christine Laflamme of Austin, Texas, Barbara Avila and husband David of DeMotte, Indiana, and Valerie Miller and husband Brian of N. Fort Meyers, Florida. He is also survived by: Grandchildren Heather Hynes and husband Joshua, Jackie Laflamme and fiancé Paul, Brandi Cleary and husband Jeff, David Avila Jr. and wife Shannon, Damien Burkey and life partners Will and Tony, and Cher-Lynn Miller and fiancé Vick; Great-grandchildren Faith and Nicholas Avila and Jesse, Mia, and Manny Cleary; Sister “Suz” (Mildred) and Brothers Jesse (Dutch), Mike, John, Bill, and Lawrence. He was also proud to count his sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws and their families as well as dear friends as part of his extended family.
The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to “Tia Lulu” and the staff of Brodie Ranch Healthcare and Rehab Center, Austin, Texas who provided for his care during his prolonged illness as well as to the ICU physicians and staff at St David’s North Austin Medical Center, Austin, Texas for the compassionate care provided in his final days and hours. Memorial Services will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, August 18, 2012 in the Chapel at Calvary Cemetery, 248 South Belle Vista Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio, 45509.
