

Ms. Alyce F. (Flo) Lambeth of Austin/Cedar Park and formerly of Odessa, Texas died on Tuesday, July 14 of natural causes. Ms. Lambeth's wish was to be cremated and her ashes scattered in an area special to her near London, England. Ms. Lambeth graduated from Odessa High School and then obtained Bachelors and Masters degrees with honors from The University of Texas. While at the University, she became one of the first female editors of The Daily Texan. Ms. Lambeth worked for the Austin American Statesman while in college and then at The Fort Worth Star Telegram. She worked many years thereafter in Dallas, Texas in public relations becoming the second female account executive in the city. She was married to the late Rod Lambeth. In 1964 Ms. Lambeth returned to Odessa, Texas where she taught English and Journalism at Permian High School for 32 years. She was named one of the top national composition teachers by the National Council of English Teachers and was published in their composition text book. While at Permian she coached the only Permian state winner in the UIL expository writing contest. As director of publications her students won a number of national newspaper and yearbook awards from Columbia University Scholastic Press Association. After retirement, she helped organize and then coordinated an after school reading program for elementary school children. A number of her former students remained close to her up until her death. She was always active in the Ector County Democratic Party serving as precinct chair and as a member of the executive committee. She was active for many years in the Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her son, J. Eric Lambeth of Austin, her grandsons Tyler and Bryce Lambeth of Austin; a brother James W. Cox of Victoria, Texas; two nephews, Roddy Cox of San Antonio and James Elliot of Denton; a cousin, Dan Cox of Apple Valley, California, and two nieces, Judi Elliott of Tulsa and Janet Elliot of San Francisco. Her son owes all that he has become to her love, her guidance, and her advice, and he will miss her every day to come, for as long as his days continue.
