On Sunday, August 17, 2025, the Lord called one of His precious angels home having finished her mansion and not wanting her to suffer another minute without Him. Angeline Doris Young was the second daughter born to Tommy Young and Annie Bell Jackson Young on March 14, 1936. She grew up surrounded by love in a Christian family with her sister Myrtle and four brothers: Tommy Jr., Isaac, Carl, and David. All of whom preceded her in death.
She attended Austin public schools until she was united in marriage October 3, 1951, to James "Jamie" Fletcher. They were married 67 years before his passing in 2019. To this union six children were born. Jamie Jr., Clifton, Carolyn, Joyce, Janette, and Barbara. Angeline busied herself with raising a strong family and being a supporter of her husband. She did not work outside the home when her children were young but her hands were never idle. She loved to cook and would prepare enough food should anyone stop by so she could offer them something to eat. If she was not cooking, she was sewing all while looking at church programs, listening to sermons by Bishop Patterson, and indulging her earthly pleasure of watching 'the Stories' (soap operas). She got involved in soap operas and listening to her you could confuse the story lines for real life. Angeline never liked to wear shoes as a child and could often be found without them. The only footwear she would keep on was a pair of boots; which sparked the nickname Boots which later became Boot.
Angeline was known as Mother Fletcher in her church where she was the Mother of the True Holiness Church (APF). Her faith was the cornerstone of her belief, and she held Bible study in her home, taught vacation bible school for her grandchildren and neighborhood children over the years. During her younger years she helped prepare food for the church fellowships. She would often be heard singing "I made a vow to the Lord and I won't turn back". She and a neighborhood friend would go visit the seniors of the community to read the bible and pray with them and often took food to them if needed.
Angeline's home was always open to family and friends. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren spent countless hours in her home and a few grew up under her Guardianship.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband and two of her children Barbara Fletcher, Joyce Fletcher-McClain, two grandchildren and one great grandchild. She leaves to cherish her memories her two sons Jamie Jr., of Houston, Clifton "Baby"(Diane) of Elgin, two daughters: Carolyn Jerrells and Janette Dorsey of Austin; her great-granddaughter Mykayla Fletcher of Virginia (whom she raised since birth); 17 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, and 31 great great grandchildren. As well as a host of other family and friends.
Angeline will be remembered as a baptized true believer, a Titus 2 woman, whose passion for the Lord inspired others in her church and our community. Known for her faith and dependance on the Lord, Angeline will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Angeline’s family asks that she be remembered for cooking, hospitality, and generous spirit.
A visitation for Angeline will be held Saturday, September 6, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar, Austin, TX 78752. A funeral service will occur Saturday, September 6, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, 6100 North Lamar, Austin, TX 78752.
