Arthur Earle Young

Arthur Young, 69, of Austin and Stephenville, Texas, was a recently retired Accounting professor at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. He died suddenly on November 1, 2024 at his house in north Austin.

While he faced many medical issues, his death was unexpected. He had just come from Stephenville for a visit.

Arthur was born on June 12, 1955, in Cheverly, Maryland to Dr. David M. Young Jr. and Mildred Victoria (Acker) Young. His family moved to Austin when he was 3 years old. He attended St. Andrew's Episcopal School, Murchison Jr. High School and McCallum High School, excelling in tennis and baseball, achieving 2nd team all district honors.

Following graduation, he joined the US Army doing exceptional work as an air defense technician. After 2 years he attended Trinity University, majoring in Accounting. He also played baseball and football there. He graduated with honors and started a career as an accountant in San Angelo, Texas. He obtained an MBA from the University of Texas and served 3 years in the Army National Guard. He left to pursue a PhD from Texas Tech and a career as a professor. He taught at Evansville University, Indiana and Ft. Hays State in Kansas before coming to Tarleton State. He retired after 10 years in 2022.

Arthur was a sports enthusiast. He loved tennis and particularly Softball and watching football. He also enjoyed trips to Las Vegas. But most of all he enjoyed visiting his niece and nephew and their children.

Arthur is survived by brother William (wife Linda) of Peoria, Arizona, sister Carolyn of Austin, nephew John (wife Katie with William, Brayden and LeAnne), niece Sara (with children Jacqueline, Juliette, and Jessica), all from Arizona. Also he is survived by cousins Karen Acker, Gordon Acker, Douglas Acker (wife LA), Bruce Acker (wife Dottie), David Sorenson and Sylvia Newell (husband Bruce).

Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM on Friday, November 15, 2024 at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Austin, where Arthur was a long term member.
