Arvie Leona Herron

Arvie “Sugar” Leona Herron, age 95, of Mathis, Texas, passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2025. She was born on April 21, 1929 in Vincent, Texas to the late Alfred and Euphie Manuel. She married Truett "T.J." Herron in 1946. They raised four children while residing in Woodsboro and Austin and eventually resided in Elgin.

Arvie retired from Montgomery Ward in 1990. She was an accomplished seamstress and loved to travel. She and T.J. were members of the Armadillo Sam RV Club of Austin and the First Baptist Church of Manor.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Janette Thompson; one son, Kent Herron; and two sons-in-law, Lee David Thompson II and John McGee.

She is survived by one daughter, Arlene McGee; one son Darrell (Mary) Herron; five grandchildren, Lee, Clifton, & Roy (Alvina) Thompson; Bethany Herron; and Christiana Herron Hays; as well as many other family and friends.

A visitation for Arvie will be held Monday, April 7, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar, Austin, TX 78752. A funeral service will occur Monday, April 7, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, 6100 North Lamar, Austin, TX 78752. A committal service will occur Monday, April 7, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Cook-Walden Memorial Hill Cemetery, 14501 N Interstate Hwy 35, Pflugerville, TX 78660.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to the charity of your choice.
