

Betty was born on April 22, 1929, in Fort Worth, Texas to parents Thomas A. Stephens and Dixie Lee Robinson. She lived her childhood in Fort Worth and graduated from Paschal High School where she sang in a girl’s trio. Betty attended the University of Texas in Austin where she met her loving husband Gordon and earned her bachelor's. She taught private piano lessons at home and taught in the Austin Independent School District as an elementary school teacher and earned her masters at Texas Women’s University in Denton while actively teaching. In addition to her work, she loved to travel worldwide, and she was an avid singer and soloist in the church choir and member of the Austin Lyric Opera Chorus. Betty was very active in women’s bible study; she loved Jesus and was a role model to us all. Betty’s sweet disposition was a blessing to everyone she met. Loving mother, wife, and matriarch of the family.
Her eldest son Richard lives in Temple. Her younger son Michael and daughter-in-law Monica live in Temple. Grandsons Tyler, Paul and Russell, and great-granddaughter Mia live in Austin.

A visitation for Betty will be held Saturday, February 15, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar, Austin, TX 78752. A funeral service will occur Sunday, February 16, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Memorial United Methodist Church, 6100 Berkman Dr, Austin, TX 78723. A graveside service - cemetery mausoleum will occur Sunday, February 16, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 4:15 PM at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 6300 W William Cannon Dr, Austin, TX 78749.
