

Billie W. Meier passed away on February 14, 2014. He was born on May 8, 1924 in Manor, Texas, the 2nd of 7 children to Joseph and Oliver Meier. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Virginia, and his wife, Frances Bryant Meier.
He is survived by six children from his marriage to Ilene Bishop Meier -Wayne, Cathy, J.B. and wife Marsha, Bruce and wife Dianna, Jud and wife Janet, and Brandi Eldridge and husband David and; three step-children from his marriage to Fran - Brenda McCoskey and husband Craig, Beverly Moore and husband Gary, and J eff Bryant and wife Teresa. He is also survived by his siblings Ralph Meier and wife Mickey, Emily Lind, Joann Rees and husband Art, Eleanor Hamrick and husband Jim, and Elaine McMahon, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, caregivers, etc...
Bill served with the 78th Lightning Division as an infantryman during World War II in Germany where he helped secure the Schwammanauel Dam at the Roer River and the Ludendorff Railroad Bridge at Remagen. Both were vital to ending the war. He was wounded by a sniper on March 16th, 1945. He received the Purple Heart for his service while recovering at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio. After leaving the service, Bill spent the majority of his working life with the US Postal Service. He also spent many years helping people with their automobiles. No matter how he was serving the public, or interfacing with his family, his dry wit, beautiful voice, and great smile were always welcome and will be sorely missed.

A memorial Service will be conducted at one o’clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 21st of March 2014, in the Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas.
