(1936 – 2023)
Bobby Edward Carter passed away on June 2, 2023 surrounded by his family and will be laid to rest next to his loving wife Anna Carter (Birdwell).
Bobby Carter was born on June 11th, 1936 to Edith and Emmett Carter in Hamilton, Tennessee, near Chattanooga. The first of four children, Bobby was known for being a keeper of his brother and sisters: Wayne, Doris and Diane. While being a big brother, he also spent much of his time working to support the family. He had a free spirit with a budding sense of adventure. He spoke often of his time with his siblings and riding motorcycles in the mountains near Chattanooga.
Following his free spirit and love for his family, he joined the US Air Force to begin to make his way in the world and to support his family. While always carrying a sense of duty to family, Bobby also carried a light hearted and keen personality that endeared him to others. Bobby was stationed at Bergstrom Air Force Base outside of Austin where he worked as an aircraft electrician and where he would meet his bride to be, Anna Birdwell.
Bobby & Ann Carter were married in 1955 and welcomed their first daughter, Sharon Lynn in 1956 and their second daughter, Brenda Gale in 1957. Bobby and Ann raised Sharon and Brenda in Austin where he worked as an electrician for the City of Austin. His devotion to his family and love for seeing the world always remained as he worked tirelessly to take his family on trips every year back to Chattanooga, and to places like Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Washington DC, and Florida. When at home in Austin the family enjoyed weekends on the lake boating and water skiing.
Bobby retired from the city of Austin and began to work for himself in the Lake Travis Area as an electrician. He built a business, many friends, and a beautiful home there. After Ann’s eventual retirement he would again set out to see the world in their motor home. They traveled all around the country, into Canada, and even Alaska seeing family and always gaining friends along the way.
They spent many nights enjoying the company of their kin, grandchildren and dear friends.
He will be eternally missed but will live with us forever in our hearts. He will be remembered for how he touched our lives, his devotion to his family, his values, and his one of a kind charisma.
He is preceded in death by his mother, father, sister Doris and her husband Paul Rogers. He is survived by his brother Wayne Carter, sister Diane and her husband Bill Matheny, his daughters, Sharon and her husband Randy Jacoby, Brenda and her husband Kelly Burnette. He gave life to 2 daughters, 7 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren.
