Brian Moore, 79, died on Saturday, January 31, 2026 in Austin surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Kansas in 1946 to Sheridan Bud and Alice Peggy Moore. Early in his career, Brian spent several years as a national bank examiner where he got to travel throughout Texas. He then moved onto a new experience, building a successful, long-lasting career as a banker, which took him and his family to live in El Paso, San Antonio, and back to Austin. Later in life, he left banking for boats and became the owner of Riviera Marina on Lake Travis, which he operated until his retirement, creating many sunny and laughter-filled memories with family and friends.
Brian enjoyed grilling out, travelling, hunting, the outdoors, and a cup of coffee or drink on the back deck. He loved all sports but was especially passionate about UT football, which he watched from the stands of DKR in their most recent season as they won against Texas A&M. Brian's life was filled with music, and every evening he would play his favorite artists, from Van Morrison or Jimmy Buffet to Willie Nelson. Growing up as the child of a service member, his family moved around but settled in Texas for Brian's high school years. He quickly acclimated, and lived in Texas for the rest of his life – he likely would have won a competition on Texas small-town geography, had anyone ever challenged him.
He was easygoing, kind, and funny, turning many strangers into friends. Brian was quick to strike up a conversation with people who crossed his path, whether he was out at a local restaurant or on a trip with his wife Marcia to explore places like New Zealand, Ireland, or Montana. Together with his wife, they enjoyed visiting their daughters as each moved around the world from Mongolia and Africa to Spain, and they always looked forward to their annual family beach trip in Port Aransas. Brian had a soft spot for animals and a respect for nature. He put out food for a stray kitten that eventually joined the family, he would leave sugar water in red cups for hummingbirds on the back deck, and he took and shared pictures of deer and foxes that would come to the backyard looking for a quiet spot.
He leaves behind his wife, Marcia, his two daughters, Shannon and her husband Thomas, Courtney and her husband Enzo, his two grandchildren, Lia and Luca, and his sister Sally.
His family will hold a graveside service at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery on Friday, February 20 at 1pm, followed by a reception at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home.
