Buddy Ray (Bud) Dixon Buddy Ray (Bud) Dixon, age 77, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 10, 2004. He was born in Red Rock, Oklahoma, and graduated from Ponca City High School. He served in the Army Corps of Engineers as Unit Commander (and youngest second lieutenant at the time) during WWII in the European theater, and then used the GI Bill to attend Oklahoma State University where he was a member of Delta Chi fraternity and the Pi Tau Sigma honor society, receiving his bachelor of science degree in Mechanical Engineering. Bud met his wife, Jeannine Tharp, in Galveston, married her in 1951, and they lived happily together for almost 53 years in Texas, Colorado and California. Bud had a successful career in the oil industry, rising to the level of Vice-President of Martin-Decker, a Cedar Park-based major manufacturer of oilfield and industrial weighing equipment. Bud is preceded in death by his daughter Diane Dixon, his parents, Ray and Mabel Dixon, and by his sister Betty Peery. He is survived by his loving wife Jeannine and by his sister Barbara Tipple of Austin; by his son, David Dixon and wife Susan of Georgetown; and by his three daughters, Elizabeth Dixon and partner Norma Sampson of Palm Desert, CA, Laura Truax and husband Mit of Tomball, and Ann Smith and husband Bruce of Lubbock. He is also survived by grandchildren Travis and Lesley Dixon, and Devon and Grace Smith, as well as by numerous loving nephews and nieces. Bud was honest, fair, and stoic; calm and confident; a hard-working man who was a tremendous provider for his family and a loyal friend. He taught his children to love and care for those close to them without condition. While economic with words, he could tell stories so funny that it made your sides hurt. He managed his failing health with dignity, and taught us as much in dying as he did in life. His character and values will be repeated by those generations and friends he leaves behind. He did more than what the Lord gave him to do. The family wishes to thank those who helped us in so many ways during Dads illness, especially the doctors and nurses at Austin Diagnostic Clinic and his other healthcare workers.
