

Carol Linda Carden Woodward, 76, of Austin, Texas, retired Home Economics’ Teacher at the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, in Austin, died Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Beacon Hospice, Austin, of an incurable Glioblastoma brain tumor.
Carol was born November 16, 1949, in Harlingen, Texas to Wayne C. and Marjorie Bailey Carden. She grew up in Harlingen and was a 1967 graduate of Harlingen High School. She graduated from Southwest Texas State University, in San Marcos, Texas, in 1971, with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics, Minor in History. She taught Home Economics to middle school and high school, visually impaired students from 1976 until her retirement in 2005. Before that she was a Home Economics teacher for junior high and high school students, and emotionally disturbed students at the Austin State Hospital, from 1974 to 1976, and from 1971 to 1973 she taught Home Economics at Pharr-San Juan-Alam ISD, in Pharr, Texas. She was the recipient of the “2003 Outstanding Teacher of Students who are Blind/Visually Impaired” awarded by The Council of Schools for the Blind in conjunction with The Principals of Schools for the Blind.
Carol was wonderful cook! And she will be remembered for her beautiful Christmas cookies and baskets of goodies she made for her co-workers and selected family and friends! She was also an accomplished seamstress and throughout their lives, her sisters, and she wore, almost exclusively clothes bearing the tag, “Made by Carol Linda Carden”. She was also an avid reader. She was an all-around wonderful person – the epitome of kindness. All who knew her loved her.
Carol is survived by her husband, Mike Woodward, of Austin, his son, Rob Woodward, of Gainsville, Georgia; her sister, Judy Nations (Mike), of Conroe, Texas; her sister, Mary Lou Sitton (Ken Marcum), of Harlingen, Texas; numerous nephews, one niece, three grandchildren, and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by both her parents, and her nephew, Joseph Sitton.
A celebration of life for Carol will be held on Friday, February 20, 2026, at Greenridge at Buckner Villas, on Braker Lane, in Austin, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
